Complacency.
I don't like this word or the way it feels. I found an interesting quote concerning complacency from Aldous Huxley -- one of my favorite sci-fi writers. He said, "The rung of a ladder was never meant to rest upon, but only to hold a man's foot long enough to enable him to put the other somewhat higher." I like this. I've never been one to be content. I like being on edge...just a bit. I like the thought that what I have right now isn't always going to be. I know that what I have now is that rung of the ladder taking me higher. Moving me up to bigger and better. Not that I'm complaining. My life's great. It's the kind of life that could easily breed complacency. I know this and to me it is dangerous. Give me more. I am hungry for more. May I always hunger for more. And may my hunger hold the hand of my consciousness. Because when I say give me more I don't mean I want a steak. I hunger for a meaningful life. One that is balanced. One that is complete with heart, soul and mind. All the rest just follows.
