Have you ever heard a politician endorse chainsaws?Posted Monday, September 21, 2009, at 4:50 PM
It's my first day back to the office after a week of vacation.
That's one week of no meetings or writing and I didn't miss it a bit ... Until 4:30 a.m. on Monday when I was wide awake wondering what to write for this viewpoint. My thoughts were so focused on work, that when I finally did go back to sleep I was smack dab in the middle of a "public meeting dream" straight from the weird. * Now, it's time for some dream confessions. * I'm at some sort of public meeting with a local elected official (we all know him/her but I'm not about to tell) set to speak. But, by the time I report at 9 a.m. to a department store (of all places) I've missed the whole speech -- which apparently kicked off earlier than expected. Anyway, I'm networking with people and trying to figure out what I'm supposed to write about. One man tells me that his wife won't let him talk to me. (And I think to myself 'But, I've never seen you or talked to you ever. Who are you?') Another man just stares at me. (OK, I'm used to the stares.) So, I decide to continue wandering about when the elected official begins to speak again. (At this point, I'm like cool here's the story.) Notebook -- check. Pen -- check. But, the entire speech is about chain saws! Now, I've been to many a local meeting (in real time) and wondered what my story would be but, chain saws? Never. I've attended public meetings that involve cussing, arguing and the ability to quote some of the stupidest statements ever. I've experienced boredom as well as spaced out and daydreamed at some meetings -- but never have I heard a chain saw endorsement by an elected official. The greatest part of Monday morning was waking up and sharing the dream with my husband who replied, "Sounds normal to me." And you know what -- I think he has a point. Well, I guess we have a politician (the car-salesman in-chief) who has endorsed cars and their warranty program.
I think your dream was based on reality.
Maybe the elected official should be selling "Steal" chain saws (I mean Stihl).
Fun story, thanks!
