Welcome to new Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce member Elliott Insurance Agency.

Elliott Insurance Agency opened Oct. 1 at 13 North Main Street in downtown Linton. Agents Mark Elliott and David Elliott are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and by appointment after hours and on Saturdays.

They are a full-line insurance agency with almost 50 years of combined insurance experience.

You can reach them at 847-2925 or visit their Web site at www.elliottinsuranceagency.com.

Be watching for their grand opening announcement in the coming weeks.

* Oct. 6th is the deadline to register to vote in this year's upcoming election. If you are currently not registered to vote, need to change your address, or know of someone who is not registered, registration forms are available at the Registration Office at the courthouse in Bloomfield or at the Community Learning Center at White River Valley High School.

* Thursday, Oct. 16 will be the Chamber's fall fish fry. This event will be at the Roy Clark Community Building.

We will be serving fish, slaw, baked beans and dessert from 4-8 p.m. Tickets are $7 in advance for adults and $4 for children 11 and under. Advanced tickets are available at the Chamber office.

The proceeds from this fish fry benefit the Linton Freedom Festival fireworks display.

* The Chamber's October meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 21 at Stoll's Country Inn. Our speaker for October will be Greene County Prosecutor Jarrod Holtsclaw.

Prosecutor Holtsclaw will be speaking to our members on the county's check deception program and changes coming in the program. He is interested in hearing what our members have to offer and say regarding this program.

We encourage everyone to participate and give their input to Prosecutor Holtsclaw. The meeting will begin at noon.

* The Greene County Clothe-A-Child and Toys-for-Tots program kicked off Oct. 1. The Chamber office has applications for these programs available.

Applications are accepted through October 31.

Applications are also available at the Greene County Office of Family and Children in Bloomfield, Bloomfield Town Hall, Jasonville Utility Office and Worthington Town Hall.

* A public meeting concerning the implementation of 2-1-1 service in Greene County will be Thursday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Greene County Fairgrounds, located on State Road 54 in Switz City.

The 2-1-1 program will be outlined for potential stakeholders -- businesses and organizations that offer health and human services -- as well as the general public.

For more information, please call Kerry Conway at 659-3142 or (812) 876-5933.

* The Chamber has a small quantity of Indiana Small Business Guides to Environmental, Safety and Health Regulations available for members. These guides are available at no charge and are provided through the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.

The guides cover a wide range of topics from wastewater regulations to the community right-to-know act. If you would like a copy, please stop in the Chamber office or contact us at 847-4846 to hold your copy.

* Glenburn Community and Wellness Center will be conducting their Health Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 8 from 8-11 a.m.

In addition to health screenings there will be vendor booths offering information. Flu shots will be available and door prizes will be given away.
