Chamber has a lot of activities planned

Posted Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at 5:16 PM

It's time to get focused on the fall events here at the Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce office. We have a very busy October planned.

October 10 will be the day of the downtown fall festival. We are still looking for chili cook off teams (cash prizes to be awarded!) and arts and crafts vendors. In addition to other entertainment on the stage, we will be conducting a Linton's Got Talent contest. We also have planned a pumpkin decorating contest. The pumpkin decorating is open to all ages!

For more information on how to be a chili cook off participant or how to register for the Linton's Got Talent contest, please contact the Chamber office at 847-4846.

* In addition to the downtown fall festival, the Linton Rotary will be conducting their Linton bicycle tour of Greene County on Oct. 10. There will be a 25-mile ride and a 50-mile ride. Registration is $25 per person.

The ride will begin at Humphreys Park. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the ride starts at 9 a.m.

* The Chamber's fall fish fry is scheduled for Oct. 15 at the Roy Clark Community Building. In addition to the fish, the menu will include baked beans, slaw, drinks, and homemade desserts.

Tickets are now available at the Chamber office. Advance tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. Tickets at the door are $8 for adults and $5 for children under 12.

* The Chamber's October meeting will be Oct. 20. Our speaker for this meeting will be Larry Ordner. Larry is on staff with Sen. Richard Lugar's office.

Larry will be speaking to our members on legislation important to our small businesses. This meeting is open to Chamber members and invited guests. Our location for this meeting will be announced soon.

* The Chamber will be hosting the Buy Indiana Expo on Oct. 27 at the French Lick Resort & Casino. If your business is interested in participating in this Expo, please contact the Chamber office at 847-4846. Registration cost, if registering before Oct. 9 is $175.

We have arranged golf for our vendors on Oct. 26 at the Donald Ross course. A discounted price of $55 is available to our golfers that day.

* Chamber member Greene County Economic Development will have its annual golf tournament Sept. 18 at the Phil Harris Golf Course. To register your team, contact the golf course at 847-4970.

For additional information contact the GCEDC at 847-4500.

* Chamber Member Monroe Hospital will host a series of health-related presentations this fall beginning Sept. 17. On that date, Dr. Brian Murphy will speak about arthritis, knee replacement and partial knee replacement surgery. The public is invited to hear Dr. Murphy. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. in the hospital dining room and includes complimentary dinner service. Seating is limited. Please confirm your attendance by calling (812) 361-8023 no later than Sept. 15.

* Chamber member Linton WorkOne office has recently announced a series of free, yes free, workshops. These workshops are an excellent way to increase individual skill levels in computers and job search techniques.
