NSWC Crane captain to speak at Chamber dinner

Posted Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at 4:37 PM

The Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce's annual dinner and awards banquet is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 21 at the Linton Elks Lodge.

Our speaker this year will be Cpt. Charles LaSota from NSWC Crane. Doors open at 6 p.m. and dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. This is open to the public.

Cost per person is $22, and a table for eight can be reserved for $150.

The Chamber will be recognizing our Business of the Year and our Citizen of the Year. Tickets for this event are available at the Chamber office.

* Now that the New Year has arrived, the Chamber's activities will be picking up for 2010. Our Chamber will again have a booth at the Indianapolis Boat, Sport and Travel Show at the State Fair Grounds.

Our booth is located in the Pepsi Coliseum. This year's Boat Show is scheduled from Feb. 19-28. The Chamber will be promoting outdoor recreation in the Linton area.

March 6 will be our annual Spring Expo at the Linton National Guard Armory. We will have a variety of vendors available to help you with a number of projects around the house. Watch for details as this date approaches.

* Chamber members The Heritage House and Francis Jewel Box proudly present "Bridal Showcase & Tasting Luncheon." The venue location is The Heritage House, 190 N. Main St., Linton, Ind.

The Bridal Showcase is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday Jan 31 with free admission, at The Heritage House Banquet Hall. There will be many and varied vendors in this venue, along with samples, drawings and prizes!

The "Tasting Luncheon" will be from noon to 2 p.m., at a cost of $12 per person, or $20 per couple. The luncheon to be in The Heritage House Supper Club. The luncheon will include a large sampler platters of appetizers, salad, main course, deserts and of course wedding cake.

Please, make reservations for the Luncheon at 847-4480. Vendor space available for Bridal Showcase by contacting 847-9950.

* Attention businesses: The state of Indiana has started an online list of businesses that have been delinquent in paying sales tax. A new law is in effect requiring the Department of Revenue to post the names, addresses and county locations of those businesses on its Web site. Violators could face fines and jail time.

* We again want to report news from the Better Business Bureau. The BBB of St. Louis urges consumers to avoid businesses associated with Vickie Nash, who is reporting a recent address in St. Louis, Mo. Most recently, Nash has run the Internet site, Alternative Marketing, accessed through the site getpaidsignups.com.

Two years ago, a judge permanently banned Ms. Nash from working in the advertising business in the state of Missouri; and the Missouri Attorney General sued Ms. Nash, and her husband, for selling Internet advertising services "based on false guarantees." The new operation appears almost identical to the business practice that got her in trouble in the past. The Alternative Marketing site promises to obtain "paid member sign-ups" for home-based Internet businesses. Recently, an Ohio businessman filed a complaint with the BBB saying Ms. Nash solicited him through an e-mail list, promising to market his company's site and guaranteeing 35 membership sign-ups at a cost of $260. The BBB made several attempts to contact Nash, none of which were successful.
