Hume updates Chamber members on legislative session

Posted Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at 1:08 PM

Thanks to everyone who attended Tuesday's Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce meeting at the Linton Elks Lodge.

We were fortunate enough to have State Sen. Lindel Hume as our speaker. In addition to updating members on this year's legislative session, Sen. Hume also stressed the important of completing the Census forms.

Our May meeting will be Tuesday, May 18. This meeting will also be at the Linton Elks Lodge at noon. Our speaker will be State Rep. Sandy Blanton giving us her views of this past legislative session.

We hope bringing our legislators to you gives you an opportunity to speak with them before and after the meetings on concerns and issues you have regarding the state. Members feel free to invite a guest to the May meeting.

* This Friday from 4-8 p.m. the Chamber will be having its annual spring fish fry at the Roy Clark Community Building.

The meal will include fish, baked beans, slaw, drinks and homemade desserts. Advance tickets can be purchased at $7 for adults and $4 for children.

Tickets will be available at the door at a cost of $8 for adults and $5 for children. Advanced tickets can be purchased until noon Friday at the Chamber office.

* The circus is coming! That's right, on May 1 the Chamber will be hosting the Kelley-Miller Circus in Humphreys Park. There will be two shows. The first will be at 2 in the afternoon and the second at 5:30 p.m. The Big Tent will be raised at 9 a.m. and the public is invited to watch the tent raising.

Advanced tickets are now available Regions Bank, Angell's Food Center, Patrick's Restaurant & Bowl in Sullivan, Bloomfield State Bank's Greene County locations, the Greene County Daily World and the Chamber of Commerce office.

Advance ticket prices for adults is $10 each and a child's advance ticket is $6. April 30 will be your last day to purchase advance tickets.

Be sure to purchase your tickets in advance as the adults will be $14 at the box office the day of the circus and children will be $7 at the box office. Kids don't forget to enter the coloring contest sponsored by the Greene County Daily World for a chance to win free tickets.

* A quick reminder that this Saturday is the Murder Mystery planned at Shawnee Theatre. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. At 6 p.m. food samplings will be offered by various local restaurants. The murder mystery begins at 7 p.m.

Tickets are available by calling 384-3508 or by stopping at Dr. Batteron's office. Cost is $15 per person. This should be a fun-filled evening.

* The Linton WorkOne Office has recently announced they will be offering a Budgeting and Financial Literacy workshop May 12 from 1-3 p.m. at its office. This is open to anyone and it is free.

However, you must register in advance at 847-4479.

* Mark your calendars for May 8. That is the date set for Angell Food Center's Relay For Life ribeye steak cookout. A portion of the proceeds from the ribeyes will be donated back to the Relay For Life program.

There will also be "celebrity" grocery baggers that day. The "celebrities" will be accepting tips for their hard work and those proceeds will be donated back to Relay as well.
