Welcome new Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce member The Uptown Tavern.
The Uptown is located in downtown Dugger. If you haven't tried their famous hamburger, be sure to drop in sometime and order one. Please join us in welcoming them to the Chamber. * Congratulations to New Deal Multimedia. Owners Kegan Inman and Charles Garwood conducted a ribbon cutting at their new store front on State Road 54 in downtown Linton. Saturday, May 22 will be their grand opening. They will be serving hamburger and hot dogs that day. They will be open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. In addition to providing Web sites and web hosting, they offer computer repair and will carry a few computer accessories and small repair parts. Sandy Blanton brought us an update on legislative issues effecting small businesses. Congratulations to Tony DeVault for winning the door prize donated by the Indiana National Guard. Our June meeting will be on Tuesday, June 15 at the Linton Elks Lodge. The meeting will begin at noon. Our speaker for June will be Mayor Tom Jones with an update on the city. We will also recognize the Linton Freedom Festival Queen and Court. Please plan to join us. * This weekend is the Linton community yard sales. The yards sales will be from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. Plan to come out and enjoy the day. The Linton First United Methodist Church will be serving breakfast and lunch on Saturday. For more information, contact Deidra at 847-8207. * The Roy Clark and Friends concert and the Friends of Phil Harris Golf Tournament are both fast approaching. These two events kick off the 34 Days Of June activities in Linton. Tickets are still available for the show. This year's show is slated for Saturday, June 5 at the Linton-Stockton High School. For ticket information, call or stop by Francis Jewel Box located at 145 N. Main in Linton (847-9950). The golf tournament will be June 5 and June 6 with the practice round scheduled for Friday, June 4 at the Phil Harris Golf course. If you are interested in participating in this year's golf tournament, please contact the golf course at 847-4790. * The Linton Freedom Festival activities will kick off with the conclusion of the Roy Clark and Friends concert and Friends of Phil Harris Golf Tournament. The Freedom Festival Golf tournament is set for Saturday, June 12 at the Phil Harris Golf Course. This will be a shot gun start beginning at 9 a.m. This is a two-man flighted tournament using a 27-hole alternate shot format. The cost to participate is $40 for Phil Harris course members and $60 for non-members. The day includes tee packs, lunch, hole prizes and door prizes. To register for the tournament, contact the Phil Harris Golf Course at 847-4790. * On Saturday, June 19, the annual Freedom Festival 5K Run will take place at the Linton-Stockton High School. This is an out and back course beginning and ending on the high school track. Medals are presented to the top female and male runners in each age category and trophies awarded to the top male and female performers overall. To register for the 5K, please contact the Chamber office at 847-4790. * The week long festivities for the Freedom Festival will begin with the annual Classic Car Show on Saturday, June 26 at Humphreys Park. This event will begin at 1 p.m. In addition to the beautiful cars, kids games and food, the American Red Cross will be present with their blood mobile from noon to 5 p.m. Cheryl is the executive director of the Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce.
