Motocross races set for later this monthPosted Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at 12:52 PM
Motocross racing will return to the Linton Conservation Club on Sept. 18-19.
Sept. 18 will be designated as a practice day and Sept. 19 will be racing. Practice will be from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Sept. 18. On Sept. 19 the gates will open at 7 a.m. for registration. Sept. 19 practice begins at 9 a.m. with racing at 11 a.m. * The Freedom Open, postponed from June, will be on Saturday, Oct. 9 at the Phil Harris Golf Course. This is a two-man 27-hole flighted tournament using an alternate format shot -- nine holes will be a two-man scramble, nine holes will be a two-man best ball and nine holes will be a two-man alternate shot. The cost is $40 for Phil Harris members and $60 for non-members. Cost includes tee pack, green fees, car, hole and door prizes. There will be a payout in cash to the teams. Shotgun start is at 9 a.m. * Mark your calendar and plan to join the Chamber for its annual fall fish fry. This will take place on Thursday, Oct. 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Roy Clark Building in Humphreys Park. We will again be serving baked beans, slaw and homemade desserts. Tickets are available at the Chamber office. If purchased in advanced, adults are $7 and children 12 and under $4. * There will again be a downtown street festival sponsored by the Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, Oct. 16 from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. Francis Jewel Box will then be hosting its annual street dance and classic car cruise-in following the day long festivities. Watch for additional details! * The Chamber's September meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 21 at the Linton Pizza Hut. The meeting will begin at noon. Watch for additional details. This is open to members and their guests. * This weekend is the Linton Music Festival in Humphreys Park. The entertainment begins at Friday evening and continues through Sunday. The Linton Public Library will be sponsoring a young adult art contest and adult art show during the Music Festival in Humphreys Park. For more information contact the library at 847-7802. * The Greene County Citizens' Academy program will kick off on Sept. 30. Interested individuals should contact the Greene County Foundation at 659-3142 or visit www.clcinfo.org/greene. This year's class will be meeting one full day a month rather than two half days. The meeting dates begin Sept. 30 and continue with graduation on May 5. Topics covered under this year's program will include such items as leadership, economic development, county updates, and Greene County history. If you are interested in participating, contact the Greene County Foundation. * Linton WorkOne will continue to hold training sessions on a variety of topics in the month of September. Training includes topics such as Basic Computers, Micro Soft Excel and Word, Applications and Interviewing, Resumes and Job Search Techniques.
