Thank you to Monical’s Pizza for hosting this week’s Chamber meeting. We had an excellent speaker, Bob White, from Indiana Farm Bureau. Bob updated members on the importance of Ag in our state’s economy as well as providing very interesting statistics for Greene County.
Our March Chamber Meeting will be held on Thursday, March 23 at 5:30 p.m. at Greene County General Hospital’s Conference Room. We will be conducting training for our members on new features available to you through our website. Each chamber member will (or have) received a letter from the Chamber with some brief information regarding Chamber Master. Be watching your email inboxes in the very near future for your login and password.
The countdown to participate in the Chamber Day at the Statehouse event is quickly approaching. On March 14, Chamber representatives from across the state will visit the Statehouse. Lunch will be at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Indy. Following lunch the group will visit the Statehouse. The cost is $40 per member. A tentative list of speakers was released this week. We will be hearing from Secretary of State Connie Lawson, Attorney General Curtis Hill and Governor Holcomb. The Chamber is partnering with the Indiana Small Business Development Center (ISBDC) and will be a host location for their Launch Your Own Business workshops. The first for 2017 will be on Wednesday, March 22 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the Chamber office located at 159 1st Street NW, Linton. This workshop is your first step towards small business ownership success. This class will help you evaluate your business idea with that end in mind. A free copy of this 55 page step-by-step workbook will be distributed to participants and used during the class. Following this course, ISBDC Business Advisors will be available for free one-on-one business consulting, which includes market research and financial diagnostic reports, to help you implement your strategic plan and provide ongoing guidance as you grow your business. Workshop Covers: 1) Identify Personal Objectives, Skills, and Resources 2) Describe Your Business Idea and Requirements 3) Understanding your competition and how to position your product or service. 4) Identify the managerial requirements for your business. February 28 is World Spay Day. All month long we will be taking half of the cost of a new patient exam to help alleviate the costs of spaying and neutering at the Humane Society of Sullivan County. Glenburn Community Center has announced their upcoming day trips. April 27 they will be visiting the Azalea Path Arboretum & Botanical Gardens and Broadway House Bistro. Home Instead offers free monthly educational programs for senior care professionals (and others who may be interested). FREE CEUs (Continuing Education Units) are offered for these web-based programs. The program has been adapted for accreditation in cooperation with the American Society on Aging. CEUs are available for 60 days following each of the live events for social workers, case managers, senior advisors, dementia practitioners and long term care administrators. The courses, which began in 2010, are offered compliments of the Home Instead Senior Care network so there is no cost for the CEUs. Beginning in January 2017, Greene County General Hospital will be offering monthly CPR classes to anyone in the community who would like to become CPR certified or would like to renew their CPR certification.
