Fat Like Me Weigh-In 1-12-10Posted Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at 10:35 PM
Our first week has come and gone. As I sit here watching both The Biggest Loser and my newest guilty pleasure The Doctors. The Doctors comes on sometime while I am at work, so thanks to the miracle invention of DVR, I can watch it almost every day. It just so happened that Monday's episode was titled 52 Easy Secrets to Lose Weight. While I am not going to share all of them with you, I will share a few of their suggestions.
Learn how to estimate calories and portion sizes. Remember that a proper portion of protein is about the size of a deck of cards. Half of your plate at EVERY MEAL should be fruits and vegetables. People who write down what they eat during the day lose twice the amount of weight as those who don't. Take the stairs. Errands that are less that 1 mile? Walk it. Eat 4 grams of fiber at every meal and snack. Become a part-time vegetarian. Cut out the sweet drinks. Drink before you eat. Often the body mistakes hunger for thirst. They also talked about movie theater popcorn. A medium popcorn and soda is equivalent to 3 quarter pound cheeseburgers AND 12 pats of butter. That is around 1600 calories and 60 grams of saturated fat. That is three days worth of saturated fat. I am guilty of eating a large bucket or two of popcorn with added butter by myself. Not anymore. Also, it takes a thin person 12 minutes for the stomach to signal the brain that it is full. It takes an obese person 20 minutes for the same. Eat slower. So how did you do this past week? I think I done pretty good. I now weigh 314.6 which for those of you keeping score is a 1 week loss of 8.8 pounds. Not bad for just tweaking what I eat. Remember, don't set unrealistic goals and dates for yourself. Slow and steady wins the race. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

That's excellent...keep up the good work!
Congratulations Matt! That's super, keep up the good work! :-)
That's awesome! My scale didn't budge, but it didn't go up so that's always a good thing. :)
I'm happy for you Matt, that's great.
I lost 5.2 pounds last week, I hope to get close to that again this week....we'll see.
WOW, MATT, YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB TO LOSE THAT MUCH IN A WEEK. I READ YOUR BLOB AND WAS VERY EXCITED FOR YOU. IN JAN OF 2007 I WEIGHED 307 POUNDS AND I STARTED THEN WORKING TO TAKE IT OFF. I HAD A BABY SINCE THEN AND HAVE STRUGGLED GETTING SOME OF IT TO COME OFF BUT WITH A LOT OF HARD WORK I MANAGED TO GET DOWN TO 185. I AM STILL WORKING TO TAKE OFF SOME MORE AND FOUND YOUR STORY VERY MOTIVATING TO TAKE OFF THE REST OF IT. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!
Thanks everyone, and good job yourself rob. So far this week the FLM project has lost 14 pounds. Where is everyone else?
I lost just over 12 pounds this week. That puts my first goal just 29 pounds away.
They say men lose weight faster than women, but I don't know if that is true. I just started yesterday with cutting out the pop and as Matt says Tweaking what I eat. We'll see how it goes. I would like to lose at least 25 pounds inthe next 4 months before my husband comes back from Iraq, but my long term goal is more than that. Thanks for the tips!
Well Done Matt! You have inspired me to get back onto my WW program. I had lost 40 lbs, but I have put about 15 of it back on since Thanksgiving, so I'm going to get my purpose re-kindled and go to a WW meeting this weekend.
Thanks, and keep up the good work, Matt.
On the popcorn: Pop it yourself using an air popper with no butter. Spray on some butter flavored PAM if you wish, or eat it dry. Saves tons of calories.
SOMETHING VERY TASTY ON AIR POPPED IS TO AD GARLIC SALT OR POWDER OR ADD SOME HOT SAUCE....I, PERSONALLY DONE LIKE THE HOT SAUCE, BUT SOME OF THE FAIMLY DOES......IT'S ALSO GOOD WITH ONION POWDER KILLS THE PLAIN, DRY TASTE! JUST TRY IT SOME TIME.
