I Have 20K Boots To Sell
BW and I like to go to the mountains and West or the ocean on vacation. We don't see much of that in Indiana. The west has a beauty all its own. We love it. It is difficult to grow corn, beans, and watermelons out there but they have cows, gold, coal and other minerals.
We were motoring along singing a song and saw a huge billboard that read, "Larry's Boots, 10,000 pair at exit 121." I was not aware that I had a franchise with that many boots -- 20,000 in stock. Imagine trying to wear all of those boots. But, on down the road there was another sign that read "Kleinschmidt Boots, in an effort to outdo Larry's they have 19,000 pairs of booths -- 38,000 boots. Amazing. We didn't stop. Boots look great in the west but back in Indiana they seem out of place like Hawaiian shirts.
Why are there Army surplus stores? It seems to me they would never have a surplus. Just save whatever is left over for the next recruits.
One thing I discerned on the trip is that buffet meals are scriptural. That is a relief. I can eat all I want. The American Standard Versions of the scripture records Paul the Apostle when he said, "I buffet my body daily and keep it under control so I will not be cast away." That is good enough for me. All because I saw a sign advertising a buffet.
Why does the Interstate system insist on placing mile markers every two tenths of a mile? Why not every mile. That would be less expensive and easier to maintain.
I saw a sign advertising a pet resort. Now what is that? I'm on record as saying I think people spend too much money on pets and treat them too much like people. Did you know that Americans spend more money on their pets than they donate to charities including churches? Bet me that I would spend money to send my dog to a resort. Why? I heard last evening that some friends of mine will be spending $5,000 to treat a dog that has cancer. 5K! Something is sadly out of perspective there.
One of the funniest towns in Missouri has to be Knob Noster. What does that mean? I know about Floyd's Knobs in Floyd County and they are knobs or hills jutting up like Cyprus Knees. We passed the obelisk in Iowa where Floyd is buried. He was the only casualty on the Lewis and Clark expedition.
We saw an activity that I have advocated for a long time. In South Dakota the Interstate right of way seems to be farther away from the road than in Indiana. So ranchers mow the right of way, bale it to feed their cattle. Now that is a wonderful idea. They also use the median the same way. Those in charge of maintaining the Interstate do not have to pay others to mow which saves money and the browse is used for a good purpose. There are thousands of cow mouths to feed in South Dakota.
