Update on the condition of Kevin Bays after Wednesday evening accidentPosted Thursday, October 8, 2009, at 10:18 AM
Kevin Bays was in an accident Wednesday evening north of his hometown of Bloomfield.
The accident report from the Greene County Sheriff's Department said he was pulling out of a driveway on 157 and pulled into the path of an oncoming car.
Deputy Leon Dunigan was on the scene and issued a report before 10:30 p.m. and I posted a story up online around midnight.
The official report said Kevin suffered injuries to his left abdominal area and leg.
The Greene County Ambulance Service transported him to Bloomington Hospital but there was no other news available last night about his condition.
This morning, a family member sent a note to the GCDW with some news. Here's what she said:
"Thank you for the story so quickly from an accident that happened at 6:30 pm last night and on-line already this early morning. Kevin is my dad, he is a very well-known man from his hometown of Bloomfield who has helped out hundreds and thousands in his lifetime with his wrecker service and auto repairs. Unfortunately my dad was doing the good neighborly deed and was taking a friend home ... We have received several phone calls regarding his status. I just wanted to give you an FYI, that Bloomington Hospital transferred him to Methodist Hospital last night about 11 pm. He suffers a severe laceration to the back of the head, a torn spleen, and his pelvis is completely separated, along with minor cuts and abrasions. It is going to be a very long recovery - but luckily it is not life threatening."
Thanks for the news!
Kevin has been there to help me get a car out of a ditch on more than one occasion and I imagine there are not too many people around Bloomfield who don't know Kevin Bays.
For many years, Kevin and the guys of Bays Wrecker Service have been coming to someone's rescue out on the roads, so it doesn't seem right that he should now be the one being loaded up into the ambulance.
Best wishes to Kevin for a speedy recovery!
