Thank YouPosted Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at 2:30 PM
The old saying goes "freedom is not free," and that could not be any truer. From the American Revolution to our troops currently in Afghanistan, brave men and women have proudly worn the colors not always because they had to, but because they felt (and still do) a sense of duty to our country. While we may not agree with the military policy of our government leaders, the military itself should be free from civilian criticism. I did not support President Bush's decision to go to Iraq, but I had friends, personal friends of mine, who went there to do their duty. Once they returned, I told them how grateful I was for their duty. This is not a long post, as mine usually are. I wanted to make a simple yet heartfelt thank you to all veterans for their service. To those who are currently in service, I thank you for defending our shores and our freedoms. You all are very brave, and I deeply appreciate it. This is something on which we all can agree. Till next time. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

There's at least one thing I can support and agree with Drew on. Good job on this entry.
Your best blog yet. :)
Thank you for posting such an honest and heartfelt and uniting post.
Those that have given for our freedom truly deserve our respect, regardless of our political views. All gave some, some gave ALL... and we salute you. I give personal thanks to my father and two brothers. I wish I could have followed in your footsteps but to you go the honors, wear it well.
We are still a free country due to our veterans and active duty soldiers. Thank you all, for your service.
Thank you Drew for a straightforward, military- supporting, compassionate article.
Yesterday I spent Veterans Day with my favorite Vet, brother Steve, on the golf course. As an Air Defense Officer, he worked on the Hawk, Vulcan and Patriot systems. If you ever get a chance, ask him about the Scuds they were shooting at coming into Israel. He also taught ROTC at Rose Hulman. He retired after 21 years and became a middle school math teacher and a middle school golf coach. I thanked him for his outstanding service to our country and for the outstanding butt kicking he gave me on the golf course yesterday.
Very well said Drew! Thank you to all veterans!
