Sunday Bloody Sunday

Songs give us perspective in contemporary issues. I would listen to this signature song by the Irish band U2 and wonder why such a division exists in our country. Then I would be reminded of the self-righteous religious figures, self-centered politicians and interest groups, and greedy investors.

The last line of this song speaks volumes about our society today. "And it's true we are immune, when fact is fiction and TV reality,

And today the millions cry, We eat and drink while tomorrow they die,

The real battle just begun, to claim the victory Jesus won..."

The point I make is how amazed I am on the volumes of a twenty-six year old song speaks to a society it never intended. This song was dedicated to the "Blood Sunday" tragedy that took place in Derry, Northern Ireland in 1972. The lyrics are quite inspirational and with so much division in the United States today, I found this song of unity to be appropriate.

The lyrics to the song are below.

Yes

I can't believe the news today

Oh, I can't close my eyes and make it go away

How long, how long must we sing this song?

How long? How long?

'Cause tonight we can be as one, tonight

Broken bottles under children's feet

Bodies strewn across the dead end streets

But I won't heed the battle call

It puts my back up, puts my back up against the wall

Sunday, Bloody Sunday

Sunday, Bloody Sunday

Sunday, Bloody Sunday

And the battle's just begun

There's many lost but tell me who has won

The trench is dug within our hearts

And mothers, children, brothers, sisters torn apart

Sunday, Bloody Sunday

Sunday, Bloody Sunday

How long, how long must we sing this song?

How long? How long?

'Cause tonight we can be as one

Tonight, tonight

Sunday, Bloody Sunday

Sunday, Bloody Sunday

Wipe the tears from your eyes

Wipe your tears away

Oh, wipe your tears away

Oh, wipe your tears away

Oh, wipe your blood shot eyes

Sunday, Bloody Sunday

Sunday, Bloody Sunday

And it's true we are immune when fact is fiction and TV reality

And today the millions cry

We eat and drink while tomorrow they die

The real battle just begun to claim the victory Jesus won on

Sunday Bloody Sunday

Sunday Bloody Sunday

Ugh. "jimmy42," to whom do you refer when you say, "We kill and then claim it to be a victory for Jesus..."? Good Lord, did someone beat you with a Bible when you were little? You never seem to miss an opportunity to slam Christians in your comments. But I'm pretty sure you're right about Jesus not being a fan of war or killing in his name. Anyone who would kill and then claim it as a victory for Jesus is not a follower of Jesus. When will people stop blaming an entire religion for the actions of a sect of extremists?

Try reading the bible before assuming what Jesus likes and dislikes,One instance remember he made a whip of the sords and used it on the people gambling in the temple? This was not a meek and mild Chirst who did this. God took the Israelites into a country that didnt belong to them and told them to make war with all of the inhabitants and kill them, their wives, children and animals too so that he could give them a land flowing with milk and honey! Jesus himself said "I did not come to bring peace but to cause division!

Jesus is the Lion of Judah! Not some sissy peace freak!
