Try to See It My Way...Posted Sunday, September 5, 2010, at 11:30 PM
...Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong. While you see it your way, there's a chance that we might fall apart before too long...
I was listening to my iTunes, and The Beatle song "We Can Work It Out" played through. As I have heard that song many times, I never thought too much of it -- until today. Labor Day is upon us and it usually kicks off the fall political season, and this year is no different. A wave of political contention has hit the scene, and it looks like Democrats in the US Congress will lose seats in both chambers. Then again, so did Republicans in the 2002 mid -- term election. It seems as though a tide of political discontent has hit the country, and voters are taking it out on the incumbents. What is seen on TV is not so much discontent, but rather incompetence versus ability. To put another way, what they can do and what the other cannot or has not done. All races serve as a great example of this. Trent Van Haaften and Larry Bucschon are slamming each other as they travel from Evansville to Terre Haute promising job creation, and controlled spending. Bucshon suggest Van Haaften will fall prey to the liberal wing of the Democratic Party, while Van Haaften points out that Bucschon wants to reinstate the failed economic policies of President Bush. Then, you hear Dan Coats talk about how awful Brad Ellsworth has been in Congress, and Ellsworth fires back on how Coats' lobbyist record has hurt Hoosiers. This tide in the political arena has hit home, and not just at the Federal level. The race for the State House has heated up all summer, and does not look to cool down until November. While incumbent Bruce Borders has done ads in The Shopper claiming the world is going to end without his presence in the State House, challenger Jesse James makes sure people remember his name and face as he appears on local media outlets. Regardless of your feelings on the upcoming races (a blog on the races is on the horizon), if you plan to watch TV or listen to the radio, or read a newspaper for the next two months, get ready. The intense political ads are on their way to a TV and radio near you, and they will all say "Try to see it my way..." It is only up to you to figure out which side makes sense, and what other is out of whack. Political season, here I come! It's kick the bums out time. Trouble is, you then bring in a new set of bums. Later, you gotta kick the new bums out, too. And the beat goes on ...
