Thanks to all who donated blood in honor of my good friend JessicaPosted Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at 9:09 AM
I'd like to express my thanks and gratitude to those who came out and donated blood Saturday at the 10th annual Jessica Hubbell Memorial Blood Drive.
For those who are asking 'who was Jessica Hubbell?' I can answer that question.
She was one of the most energetic, happy-go-lucky people I've ever met. She was a wonderful Christian young lady who touched the lives of many.
As I said in a previous blog, I could sit here and write thousands of words about the memories we made or the wonderful person Jess was. Simply put, she was one of the greatest friends I've ever had.
I'm truly blessed to have had her as a friend. I'll never forget her. Her young life was tragically cut short during her senior year of high school when she died from head injuries sustained in a car accident on Oct. 9, 1999. Hubbell, a member of the Shakamak High School Class of 2000, was just 17 years old at the time of her death.
Every year since her death, her sister Samantha (Hubbell) Crane has organized a blood drive in her memory.
While donating blood Saturday in Jasonville, I was chit chatting with one of the Indiana Blood Center employees. She said since they've been doing the memorial blood drive, they've had as little as eight people donate and as many as 20. I'm thrilled to announce 28 people donated blood during the four hour blood drive. A new record!
Next year, I hope to see 30 people giving blood.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of those who took time out of their busy schedules to donate blood on a Saturday evening. It truly warmed my heart to see so many people out doing something in memory of one of the greatest friends I've ever had.
