What kind of sports fan are you?Posted Thursday, December 17, 2009, at 4:52 PM
It's been my experience that there are several types of high school sports fans, some good and some not-so-good.
As an early Christmas present to a dedicated sports writer who tries to give you his best every time out, I would like for you to take the following quiz and determine what kind of sports fan you are.
1. When you watch a game unfold do you...
a. think about how much better your team could be doing if you were allowed to enter the game.
b. scream and yell your lungs out at the officials, players on the other team and anyone who doesn't agree that you know more than they do about the events as they happen.
c. look forward to halftime and another chance to get nachos without missing the action.
d. just enjoy the human drama of athletic competition.
2. When you see a bad call by an official do you...
a. think "I could've made that call with my eyes closed."
b. explain to him or her in no uncertain terms that his parents should've used a better means of birth control.
c. realize that the nachos you bought at halftime didn't have enough cheese.
d. realize the official is only human.
3. When you see a player from your team make a silly mistake do you...
a. let him or her know that they really should be sent back to the junior varsity for more seasoning.
b. yell at the coach and tell him he or she should be sent back to the junior varsity to learn to how to coach.
c. realize that the nachos you bought at halftime have too much cheese.
d. appreciate the efforts of the player and hope to see him or her improve as the season progresses.
4. When you realize the game is lost and there's hardly a chance your team will win do you...
a. explain very loudly to the players that you paid good money to watch what turned out to be a really lousy game.
b. blame the officials for missing so many calls that your team didn't have a chance to begin with.
c. can't wait to get to the nearest Mexican restaurant to get some more nachos.
d. appreciate the fact that both teams gave their best efforts and really did leave everything on the court.
5. As you are leaving the game and realize you're walking out next to a fan of the other team do you...
a. let them know that their team really should learn how to win without cheating.
b. let them know that if it weren't for the lousy officiating their team would surely have tasted defeat.
c. invite them to the Mexican restaurant for more nachos.
d. let them know their team did a fine job, it was a good game and that perhaps next time it might be even closer.
Now let's each score our own quiz and see how we all did.
