Kelly and Team Finish 6th

When we left home Wednesday afternoon an umbrella was a last-minute thought as we packed for spring break. I mean, we are going to be in the desert. The chances of it actually raining are slim right? That would be a big NO!!

Despite the rainy finish to Sunday's final round, we moved up two places as a team (8th to 6th). I had a good start before the rain hit and was able to hold it together for a 74. Kirsty continued her solid play with a 75 today and tied for 15th. Brittany rounded out her first two days with a 77, good for a 6th place finish in the tournament. Kristtini dug deep and fought to the end to shoot 79. Katie finished with an 85 today.

Playing in their second round of the individual tournament, Chantelle and Autumn shot 77 and 87 respectively. Chantelle had a great two rounds for her first collegiate tournament.

As a team we shot 305 today, which was the 3rd best score for the day, behind Minnesota (298) and first place Michigan (303).

Our 6th place finish out of 18 teams is the best finish we've had in the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational. We also finished ahead of all but one MAC school (Eastern Michigan). This gives us a confidence boost heading straight into UNLV's invitational.

"It's indicative of the growing and rebuilding of our program. Now that most of you are upper class-men you expect to see the improvement," Coach Mowat said. She was also happy with the individual play, "I know it's tough for Brittany to begin 2 shots out of a tie for third, especially after shooting what she did the first two rounds (72, 73). But we had good team back-up today with you and Kirsty's rounds (74 and 75). Kirsty had a really good tournament too."

Making her first appearance as a college golfer, Chantelle did very well. "Chantelle looked really solid in her first playing experience," said Coach.
