Two School Records: Cain 69, Team 289

Posted Monday, March 8, 2010, at 11:31 PM

After an eventful van ride from Rio Verde, AZ to Boulder City, NV with our driver Doug, we finally made it to our hotel.

As much as we all just wanted to go to bed, we had to stay up and unpack all of our wet clothes, clubs, towels, shoes, and hats. Basically, whatever we had with us, or on Coach's cart, was drenched.

Coach and Mary found a 24 hour laundry mat so they took all of our wet clothes. So nice of them to sacrifice sleep so we could have dry clothes in the morning!

I won't keep you in suspense any longer..... Kristtini Cain shot a three under 69, which ties the school record! And that's not the only record of the day. Our team total was 289, topping our previous record of 292. Brittany Kelly fired an even 72, followed by Chantelle Hefer and I with 74s. Kirsty O'Connor continued to play well firing a 75.

Katie Windlan, playing as an individual, tallied an 83.

There is so much to be said about today! First off, we are in 3rd as a team, behind UNLV (281) and University of Idaho (285). We are currently ahead of 37th ranked Tulsa, 40th Texas, 45th Texas Tech, and 50th Campbell University.

For all you golfers, you know what it's like when you play well early. You start second guessing yourself and questioning why you are playing so well. Kristtini started her round 4 under after seven holes, and only one bogey after that! She did an amazing job of playing steady golf.

Chantelle was two under heading into her ninth hole (actual 18th hole, we started on the back). She took a quadruple bogey on the hole, but was able to keep it together and was even on the front nine. That took a lot of concentration and steady play to push through the bad hole.

Brittany made a good comeback shooting 2 under on the front after a 38 on the back.

I got off to a pretty good start, but made a double on my ninth hole. I got it back quickly, making two birdies on my 10th and 11th holes.

Kirsty played a steady round with 15 pars and 3 bogeys. In Kirsty's words, she couldn't buy a birdie putt!

All in all, it was a good day for the Ball State women's golf team. Coach and Mary said it was fun to watch us play today. They said that they just watch us hit fairways and greens all day.

Check out Golfweek.com for a "Take Five" with the team! Check under the college tab.

That's all for now!! Time to relax at the hotel!

Rachael,

These are great.

Always nice to see the local athletes do well at the next level, and a candid voice from your vantage point is both refreshing and entertaining.

Thanks.
