The team from left: Chantelle Hefer, Kristtini Cain, Autumn Duke, Rachael Pruett, Kirsty O'Connor, Brittany Kelly, and Katie Windlan. We had dinner on the strip and did some sight seeing after Wednesday's final round.
When we set out on the challenge of playing two tournaments back to back I wasn't sure what to expect. Needless to say we exceeded all expectations with two 6th place finishes and multiple school records broken.

Wednesday's final round of the UNLV Spring Invitational ended what became a history-making tournament. Five school records were either tied or broken.

Brittany wrapped up her solid play with a 73 in the final round. Her 36-hole total of 142 (2 under par) and 54-hole total of 215 (1 under par) broke both school records. Brittany had two stellar performances with her 6th place finish at Rio Verde and 3rd at UNLV.

Kirsty was coasting in her third round before the weather took a drastic turn. She was 4 under through 12 holes. After a couple of bogeys, she was at 2 under with 4 holes to play.

Mother Nature had a not-so-funny joke to play on us. Winds of up to about 50 miles per hour suddenly picked up as we all finished our rounds. Kirsty finished bogey, double bogey for a 73. However, the final two holes were played directly into the gale force winds. The final hole was already a 410 par 4, and with the wind it became unreachable in two. Nonetheless, Kirsty played a great round despite the conditions.

Kristtini fired a 77 in her final round. She too struggled with the windy conditions at the end of the round. Kristtini and Kirsty tied with three others for 25th place, a great showing in a talented field.

I did not play my best golf to end the tournament. Struggling in the beginning of the round, with 5 bogeys on the front I was able to keep it together and was 8 over with three holes to play. After birding 16, I needed two pars to hold together a 79. However, this is when Mother Nature decided to throw a curve ball. Like everyone else, I finished bogey, double bogey for an 82.

Chantelle was 3 over par with three to play. She had a tough finish in the elements as well, and ended with an 84. Nevertheless, she had a very good performance for her first experience competing with the team. Look for more great golf to come from her!

Katie competed as an individual in this tournament. She concluded her play with an 83. Even though she struggled with her putter, Katie was happy with the way she hit the ball.

We will all remember the UNLV Spring Invitational 2010 as a record-breaking performance. First, we shoot 289 in the first round, breaking the previous record of 292. Also, in the first round, Kristtini tied Kirsty and Brittany's 18-hole record of 69. Brittany broke both the 36 and 54-hole individual records. We also broke the 54-hole team record with an 896 total.

We weren't sure what to expect playing six straight competitive rounds. However, I think it's safe to say we met, and exceeded all of our expectations. Our solid team and individual play this past week has given us the confidence boost we needed as we begin our busy spring schedule.

Thank you to all the parents who came and watched, and those who followed on Golfstat from "across the pond." You're support is much appreciated. Also, thank you to all the fans that encouraged us before we left and wished us well on our Facebook page. And of course thank you to our coaches for pushing us this winter as we prepared for our spring break.

You can continue to follow our season on Golfstat.com as well as updates on our Facebook page. Our next competition will be at Georgia State on March 22nd and 23rd.
