Life of a College AthletePosted Thursday, March 18, 2010, at 10:31 AM
Every year we say, "Once we get through February conditioning and practice it will be smooth sailing!" What my teammates and I somehow forget is that traveling and playing golf is just as tough. Then again playing is a lot more fun than running and lifting (no offense Mary, we love your workout! Haha!).
After what felt like a short seven days of golf, we returned home from Rio Verde, AZ and Las Vegas, NV with just a week to prepare for our next tournament at Georgia State University. This means working on our games as well as catching up with our school work and trying to get ahead. But such is the life of a college athlete! Although it can be tough at times to keep up with everything, in the end it's worth all the hard work. This week we had the opportunity to visit Wood Wind Golf Academy in Carmel, IN. They have a SAM Putt Lab and we were fortunate enough to use it. We also got feedback on full swings as well. They have a launch monitor system that uses Doppler radar to track the ball. This allows for much more accurate data collection. Since we are in the middle of our season, it was best for us not to get too involved with all of the numbers. However, in my case, there were such astounding results in switching putters to one better suited for me that I am going back to my old Scotty Cameron putter. Also in practice this week, there have been two qualifying rounds for the final spot to GA. The second round is today. We will be leaving early Saturday morning and driving all day. The practice round is Sunday, 36-holes on Monday, and the final 18 on Tuesday. The weather looks promising. Sunday looks to be the only day with a chance of rain, and Monday and Tuesday's highs are in the 60s! I am sure the van ride down will produce some great anecdotes to share! And of course there will be great golf to report! |
