SILENCE IS GOLDEN
Posted Friday, June 25, at 8:07 AM
I was reminded of this phrase recently. I did a little research on it and was surprised to find that the original phrase has been reported to be: "speech is silver; silence is golden." I believe this statement to be true. I find it interesting to watch others that are in a conversation. ...

GAY MARRIAGE
Posted Friday, June 18, at 7:59 AM

I find this topic quite interesting. It seems to me that very few other concepts have as many confusing points to be made. Marriage has always been a hot button for discrimination and social unrest throughout the ages. Marriages have been arranged, bartered, annulled, and protested in just about every way possible. ...

You reap what you sow
Posted Thursday, May 27, at 7:58 PM

Farmers will work hard when it's time to work hard. Battle the weather elements, work 18 hours days for days on end, until it is all planted. In preparation, the best of seeds are bought early, 4 months ahead of Spring. Fertilizing and spraying the ground. ...

NO GUILT REQUIRED
Posted Friday, May 21, at 10:15 AM

From the time I was a small child I spent many hours in church. Countless sermons and lessons. Some remembered, some forgotten. By the time I was in my 20's I had enough guilt stored up to last a lifetime. My sins had been pointed out, brought up, examined and re-examined over and over. ...

Friends
Posted Thursday, May 13, at 10:33 AM

How many do you have? How many do you think you have? How many of your friends, consider you a friend? What does it mean to even be a friend? I personally have maybe 4 really good friends. You know, the kind that have been there for years. There are several social networking sites on the Internet. ...

FOR SALE
Posted Friday, May 7, at 8:10 AM

I know I shouldn't use this column to sell things, but I hope they don't make me move it to the classified section. I have an item for sale that I would like to describe first. I'm going to be upfront about the problems with it first. It doesn't work at least 50% of the time, in fact that number may be closer to 65%. ...

JUST TAXES
Posted Friday, April 30, at 8:11 AM

Here it comes if you listen you just may be able to hear it. In 2003 it was $900,000, 2004 it was $1.1 million, 2005 $1.7 million, 2006 $1.65 million, 2007 $1.5 million, 2008 $1.8 million, 2009 $1.8 million. Those are the amounts that the Greene County budget had to be cut each year. My guess is this year's number will be much bigger...

What kind of plow?
Posted Friday, April 23, at 8:52 AM

The moldboard plow was invented many years ago. It's a tool that farmers use to turn over the soil at the end of every crop year. It has a curved metal "moldboard" that flips the soil over. The first one invented was a rigid solid piece of metal. You hooked it on your tractor and went back and forth until you were done, or until the plow broke. ...

A STORY
Posted Thursday, April 15, at 8:21 PM

Once upon a time, in a beautiful kingdom far away, there lived a young and ravishing princess named Adora. (her real name was Ethel after her great grandmother on her mother's side but her father let her change it after her mother's death. And don't get any ideas about going out with her---- this is just make believe.) Anyway, Adora lived in an enormous castle with her father, the king, and many servants. ...

THE SECRET OF LIFE
Posted Monday, April 5, at 7:36 AM

The key to the jail is never kept in the cell. This explains why so many people think they have to look outside themselves for happiness. They believe that happiness is chance or has something to do with their environment or somehow not totally in their control. They never realize that their thoughts themselves, build the mental prisons they inhabit...

GOLF CARTS?
Posted Wednesday, March 24, at 8:59 AM

They are a hot topic. Just look around, the hot topics seem to be, golf carts, who got arrested, what big name got caught doing this or that. Just look at any blog, sometimes it seems that the more response, the less important the issue. It seems as if you want to get everyone yawning start talking about the cities finances...

What do you say, believers?
Posted Tuesday, March 16, at 11:52 AM

I first want to start by saying I hope the Goosepond Fish and Wildlife Area does well. Greene County needs it. It is no coincidence that our budgets are running a deficit, our highway department doesn't have money while losing $82,000 per year in taxes and millions spent in the county. ...
