Another snow day
Looking out the window above my computer I'm seeing snow again. I could do without it. However, kids look at snow as an escape from school.
A snowy day calls for throwing the covers over your head, burrowing deeply underneath, and rising when you get good and ready.
There's lots to do once you're up. Snuggle on the couch to watch movies or cartoons. Spread snacks all around. Work your way through potato chips, chocolate, pizza, more chocolate, maybe some slices or chunks of cheese, more chocolate, along with liters of soda.
The snow day menu means freedom of choice. None of that food group stuff. A short nap regenerates and energizes.
Now it's time for fun. Pile and layer enough clothing so that you walk stiffly, robot-like. A pair of heavy boots worn a few times a year are stuffed around thick stocking feet. The winter landscape is calling. Must hurry.
Make some snow ice cream, snow angels, snow forts, have a rousing snowball fight, and try to build an igloo. Sledding down any hill on any conveyance will carry you throughout the day.
Finally, in the waning light that signals dusk, drag your weary, tired self to the house. Track in a ton of snow. Gallons of dingy water puddles end up on every floor of the house. Mom might yell at you but you're too tired to care.
A mountain of wet, soggy, and smelly winter clothes pile up on the bedroom floor or a chair. Spend the rest of the evening wandering around in long underwear or pajamas.
Now, back to bed. Curl up, throw the covers over your head. You'll be waiting for the call that signals another snow day and NO SCHOOL!
