Name that pooch
We spent some enjoyable TV time watching the Westminster dog show. It's not called the "Super Bowl" of dog shows for no reason.
This year they added a couple of new breeds to the dog groups. While watching these truly spectacular dogs parade across the screen, we checked out the unusual names.
Some people get wild and crazy picking a pet's name. But, then you hear their more simple, easier to remember name choices. They included those like Hickory, Winston, Mo, Prada, Hunka Munka, Phoenix, and Tucker.
Personally, I choose whatever hits me at the time we pick up our new pooch. Years ago, on the way home with our new Cairn puppy, I heard the song with the lyrics, "Dude looks like a lady" and that's what I named him.
A couple of years back we got a Chihuahua mix. I'd already decided to call him Lenny Kravatz. We get a lot of funny, amused looks when he's called into the vet's office.
While at the vets, I've heard a lot of great names. My favorite is an English Bulldog called Large Marge. Brings a smile to my face every time I hear it.
If you talk to dog owners, they will willingly share their favorite pets moniker. We met a lady who called her dog Indiana Bones. Great name!
After Googling the top 10 pet names, the list included: Bella, Bailey, Max, Lucy, Molly, Buddy, Maggie, Daisy, Charlie, and Sophie.
Not to be outshone, our family (both sides) has picked some dandy handles for their dogs. We have two Katies, Shaman, Luna, Mozer, Hazel, Rosie, Lenny, Dude, Kreika, Sadie, Rusty, Coco, Wilbur, Sophie, Hazel, Bebe, and Tessie.
As this indicates, we are slightly obsessive with dog ownership ... you gotta love them.
