  • I am confused as to where the gender bashing comment came from? I believe it is Mr. Rogers. You may want to go back and correct that. Otherwise, it is a good article. When bullying leads to death, it does become an important topic and should as long as it needs to be. Regretfully, two of my children gave up on school by the time they got to high school because of bullying and the loss of art classes. They survived and got an education but I missed out on seeing them walk across the stage and receive their diploma. Bullying robbed me of that. I asked my son what he felt about bullying since he was directly affected by it. He said that standing up to the bully is the only way to stop it. "Snitching" only makes it worse. You can't be with your kids 24/7. Ideally it should be the parents responsibilty to keep their children from being a bully or being bullied. "Ain't" gonna happen. Lack of self esteem has a way to spill over from parent to child. Bullies are trying to control their environment. Maybe their parents are controlling or just not there. Figure out what causes the bully to be a bully and then you know how to deal with them. Teachers, parents, relatives and even neighbors need the tools to spot the problem early. Sounds simple but it will take all of us being "plugged in" to the situation. Get involved! If you don't want to be part of the problem, become part of the solution!
