Carnegie Heritage & Arts Center of Greene County News
If one investigates the human hand, you will encounter a wondrous work of art. It might indeed be one of our most valuable instruments for creation.
It is with the "touch" of hand to pen (or in today's time, the keyboard) that our emotions flow across a story written, pulling in the reader to feel that shared experience we all crave. One brush stroke after another by a hand turns into a beautiful painting, and a timed push of one finger captures a snapshot of life forever cast in a photo. Even in the creation of music, the hand plays an integral part.
I will be bringing you happenings from the Carnegie Heritage & Arts Center of Greene County, located at 110 East Vincennes Street in Linton. This national and state historically land marked building formerly housed the Linton Margaret Cooper Library.
When Andrew Carnegie donated $15,000 to help build this English Tudor/Craftsman style structure in 1908 he intended the money to be used to help the community, which it most certainly accomplished for over a 100 years as the local library.
Now it is the Carnegie Heritage & Arts Center's board of directors hope this beautiful historic building can continue to inspire others to learn and create by serving the county as an arts and history center.
* Currently music lessons are available in the upstairs rooms and photography workshops are scheduled for the next few weeks in conjunction with Marsh Madness. (More info on our website: www.carnegiegreene.org )
* "Nature Works" is the new show in the SE gallery that opened Feb. 23. It features nature photography, art, fiber works (handmade quilts, cross stitch, ect) and sculptures by local artists.
* The Phil Harris/Alice Faye Exhibit is on loan for viewing in the NE wing.
* The permanent art collections of Dale French, Father Hilary Vieck and Muriel Baughman are also on display.
* Local artists' works and products are planned to be in the SW wing as well as a different artist each Saturday is to be on hand to demonstrate their art and interact with the community. We hope to have this implemented by mid-March.
The hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Saturdays by appointment (we will soon have regular hours on Saturday).
Stop by and get inspired to use your own "creative touch."
