Father and daughter share passion for photography
The Carnegie Heritage & Arts Center of Greene County is proud to showcase the amazing photography of Nick Schneider and his daughter Nicole Byrd in the Southeast Gallery with opening reception Saturday, May 25th from 1-4 p.m.
Nick Schneider and his daughter, Nicole Byrd, share a passion for photography and a sincere love to capture images of nature and the things around them.
Nick is an award-winning journalist and photographer, who has more than four decades of experience in the profession. He is currently assistant editor of the Greene County Daily World in Linton and owner of NJS Photo Images.
Nick says, "I receive unspeakable joy, peace and relaxation when I can just roam the countryside with my camera in hand, waiting to capture that special moment. It could be something very simple like a Sandhill Crane gracefully flying overhead, or a honeybee searching for some nectar in a brilliantly colored flower, or just finding an aged barn and wondering what kind of story could be learned if the barn could talk. There are images all around us every day to view and to enjoy and I've been blessed with an ability to capture some of those images so others can enjoy them."
For Nick, who is not an artist with a brush and paint, photography has afforded him a way to artistically express himself with a stroke of imagination, creativity and imagery that reflects his love for what his camera can create.
"I hope my images relate to those viewing them. I hope they can feel the connection I have when I snap something that I feel is a reflection of God's beauty and a work of his creative hand," Nick says. "I am thrilled to be able to have the opportunity of sharing this first exhibition show with my daughter, Nicole, who is a talented photographer and image maker in her own right. I tried to groom her at an early age to have an eye for a photo and she's taken that instruction very well. I know you will feel the love she has for photography when you view her beautiful work."
He continued, "I thank Sharon, my wife of 38 years, for allowing me the freedom to get out on many Saturday mornings and for the long drives home after work in order to find many of the images that you will find in this show."
Nicole, who is 34 years old and lives in West Lafayette, IN, has been married to her husband, Jeremy for 13 years. They have 2 children, Jaeden-8, and Jaclyn-6.
"I have enjoyed photography for as long as I can remember. My dad has always been a photographer and in the newspaper business. When I was small, I would tag along with him into the dark room and wait, not always so patiently, for his photos to develop. As I got older, he let me start winding his film and eventually taking photos.," Nicole remembers. "At the age of 8, I signed up for 4-H and naturally took photography as one of my projects. After 10 years of 4-H, it was the one project I did every year. From there, I continued to have photography as a hobby and creative outlet for myself. I have become a natural-light photographer, who loves capturing those fleeting moments for families and in nature."
The show will continue to run through June 22, if you miss the opening this Saturday, May 25th from 1-4 p.m.
Stop by and take the opportunity to experience the combined creative eye of a very talented father and daughter.
Hope to see you there!
