Photography of Cheryl Helms and Pauline Dudley on Exhibit at Carnegie
The Carnegie Heritage & Arts Center is proud to showcase the photography of Cheryl Helms and Pauline Dudley in the Southeast Gallery, with opening reception Saturday, July 27 from noon to 4 p.m. The exhibit will run July 23 through August 16.
"Today's Yesterday" is a series of images that reflect the past, its culture, history and craftsmanship of its people and their surroundings.
Cheryl Helms, a self-taught award-winning photographer, fell into the passion of photography when she picked up her husband's Canon manual camera to take senior pictures of her children. Years later, her love of God and nature compelled her to turn her creativity towards the world around her and capture images to share with others. She also shares her knowledge with others by teaching classes, mentoring and volunteering.
Her photos have been shown at Las Vegas with WPPI, IU's SoFA Gallery, in association with the Bloomington Photography Club with the Bloom Magazine project, and are registered in the National Art Registry, as well as in an affiliated program with Disney and ABC.
Pauline's desire to capture images was spurred at an early age of 10 when she received her first camera as a gift from her parents. Beginning exhibiting in 4-H as a child she continued, her interest in photography went into adulthood. Having shown in several contests, she has won many awards including Reserve Grand Champion. Her desire to capture images for others to enjoy continues today.
Cheryl and Pauline met several years ago through the Fotonatics Photography Club that meets at the Carnegie. Since then they have grown to become friends that share their creative perspectives in capturing pieces of yesterday seen today.
Take the opportunity to stop by the opening reception this Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., meet these talented local photographers and view their work. Light refreshments will be on hand and great photography. Don't miss it.
