Puckett has left his mark on many students
When I started writing this blog I wanted to highlight how we as humans "touch" life, as well as individual lives themselves and change them from what they were into something very different when we take our hands away.
I attended a retirement reception this past Saturday night held for Mike Puckett, the band director at Linton-Stockton. What I felt throughout this special tribute to this man brought me to tears.
Mike Puckett is a teacher who for 31 years has been touching so many lives. Not only through music but though teaching valuable life lessons that are forever imbedded in his student's minds.
Yes, he expects 100% and then some, but it creates an amazing work ethic and his students have become musicians, doctors, writers, industry leaders and even music teachers themselves.
Over 400 former students, band members, community members and parents were there Saturday to personally thank this man.
Students from as long ago as 20 years returned to thank him, others said they wouldn't be who they are today if not for him. His band played for him, current and past students spoke tributes with some sending videos who could not attend, and even one wrote and performed an original song just for that day.
So as he takes his hands away and Mr. Puckett retires as the music/life teacher, I say, "thank you, thank you" for giving of your special creative touch.
We will be forever changed.
