"Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.
People who have difficulty in celebrating other's successes and achievements struggle with having a critical spirit. Typically, people with a critical spirit have a pessimistic outlook towards life and suffer from feelings of fear and insecurity. When one becomes overwhelmed by these negative feelings, the result is a person who is envious and overly critical. Therein which, being happy for others is not possible and the critical spirit begins to pick apart another's accomplishments.
Instead of wanting or envying what someone else has, it is crucial for one to seek what plans God has for their life. It has been said that, "the grass is greener on the other side." Although that may appear to be the case, one should not be consumed by what another individual has succeeded in their life because what God has in store for each person is the perfect plan for their life.
As Christians, it is important to encourage one another and rejoice with others when God blesses them. If one does not, they cannot expect for others to celebrate with them when they have achieved their goals. Furthermore, if an individual cannot rejoice in someone else's blessings, they hinder their own successes because God cannot entrust them with a greater promotion or blessing. That individual will always be discontent and consumed with wanting what someone else has.
When people feel like there is nothing positive in life, it can be easy to become downcast and distracted when good things appear to be happening in the lives of others. However, it is important to remember that God made Christians to be overcomers. Christians are to be "victors not victims." Feelings of fear, insecurity, and jealousy have no part in a Christian's life.
Although an individual has no right to be critical of another, the critical person is to be handled with love and truth. This does not mean that one comes in agreement with the condemning comments. Instead, one must be bold enough to speak truth in order to combat the disapproving attitude towards life.
God designed each individual to be creative, just as He is creative, and He expects His people to contribute to society with the individual skills He has entrusted to them and appreciate the unique talents of others.
