Self-pity can be one of the most damaging mindsetsPosted Friday, June 1, 2012, at 1:03 PM
Get in the Pool
"Now there is in Jerusalem a pool near the Sheep Gate. This pool in the Hebrew is called Bethesda, having five porches (alcoves, colonnades, doorways). In these lay a great number of sick folk -- some blind, some crippled, and some paralyzed (shriveled up waiting for the bubbling up of the water. For an angel of the Lord went down at appointed seasons into the pool and moved and stirred up the water; whoever then first, after the stirring up of the water, stepped in was cured of whatever disease with which he was afflicted. There was a certain man there who had suffered with a deep-seated and lingering disorder for thirty-eight years. When Jesus noticed him lying there [helpless], knowing that he had already been a long time in that condition, He said to him, Do you want to become well? [Are you really in earnest about getting well?] The invalid answered, Sir, I have nobody when the water is moving to put me into the pool; but while I am trying to come [into it] myself, somebody else steps down ahead of me. Jesus said to him, Get up! Pick up your bed (sleeping pad) and walk!"
(John 5:2-8, AMP)
Throughout life, we have many opportunities to get discouraged. This man had been laying by the poolside for 38 years. He waited patiently but when it came time to get into the pool, somebody always got ahead of him ... talk about feeling discouraged!
In this world, we will encounter trials of every kind. Do not let hopelessness, dysfunction, rejection, and fear become your identity. Paralyzed by betrayal? It's not your identity. Crippled by abuse? It's not your identity. Blinded by disappointment? It's not your identity. Jesus Christ came and died on the cross to save you and equip you to live a whole and healthy life. You don't have to wait for someone else to bring your healing, through Jesus Christ, you have the ability to get up and walk!
Maybe you are waiting for your breakthrough, keep a good attitude as you wait. When God gives us a promise, it is in His season, not ours. The crippled man waited 38 years for his healing, he got it, and it was worth the wait! Our society is always in a hurry, but God isn't. There is no pit so deep that God's hand is too short to lift you out of. Realize that your promise takes a process. It may hurt, it may take some time but "God's delay is not His denial!"
Self-pity can be one of the most damaging mindsets. Do not waste one more day in your life feeling sorry for yourself.
No matter what you have been through, there is always somebody who has it worse than you. Jesus' death on the cross gives you an extraordinary quality of life. Salvation is not the end of your life ... it's the fullness of the beginning of your life. You have the power of Jesus Christ dwelling on the inside if you. So don't just lay there, pick up that "mat" and walk!
