An Invitation to Abundant LifePosted Friday, January 11, 2013, at 2:56 PM
"Wait and listen, everyone who is thirsty! Come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Yes, come, buy [priceless, spiritual] wine and milk without money and without price [simply for the self-surrender that accepts the blessing].
Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your earnings for what does not satisfy? Hearken diligently to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness [the profuseness of spiritual joy].
Incline your ear [submit and consent to the divine will] and come to Me; hear, and your soul will revive; and I will make an everlasting covenant or league with you, even the sure mercy (kindness, goodwill, and compassion) promised to David."
(Isaiah 55:1-3, AMP)
The invitation of abundant life is extended to all mankind. This special invite is not just for those that are rich, beautiful, popular and of high social status. It is also a summons for the poor, broken-hearted, lonely, and lowly.
In biblical times, it was not uncommon to hear various vendors loudly shouting from the market streets, "Come! Buy! Eat!" As you made your way toward the temple, you would hear sounds of voices, the clatter of hooves and odors of cooking food. Along the Small Market street in the Lower City, you would pass open-air shops where Jerusalem's craftsmen sat at work: the city's weavers, dyers, potters, bakers, tailors, carpenters and metalworkers. Farther along you would enter the colorful bazaar, where merchants sold fruits and vegetables, dried fish, sacrificial animals, clothes, perfumes and jewelry.
All wonderful things, appealing to the eye and appealing to the senses. However, this passage speaks of acquiring something much more valuable than any of these goods. Earthly possessions satisfy for only a moment whereas the Lord Jesus Christ satisfies a parched, thirsty soul for eternity. Yes, Jesus does offer to satisfy the basic necessities of life ... however, more importantly, HE offers to bring overwhelming satisfaction of an abundant spiritual life. Beloved, this is God's FREE gift to you. HE offers an eternal promise that no amount of money can buy.
The Lord FREELY offers His invitation to YOU. Right here, right now, TODAY. For tomorrow is not guaranteed.
Worldly goods require wealth and are unfulfilling to an insatiable appetite, however, if you will respond to His invitation today ... surrendering your life to him ... out of a heart of obedience, you too can enjoy a satisfied physical and spiritual life.
