Several activities set for Freedom Festival

Posted Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at 11:24 AM

We are excited to bring you the 2012 Linton Freedom Festival. Many people have been working behind the scenes to make this family tradition possible.

Live entertainment kicks off on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the bandshell with Jered Jacob playing acoustic music, and King McQueen and Addiction playing Rock Music. Come out every night to enjoy a night out in Humphreys Park with a great variety of styles of music.

On Saturday, we will crown the Miss Sparkler, Mr. Firecracker and Baby Freedom at 6 p.m. At-the-door registrations will be accepted starting at 5:45 p.m. Cost is $10 per entry; Linton address is to be confirmed for each entry. Ages are 3-5 years and 0-12 months.

James Gang Amusements Carnival opens on July 2 at 6 p.m. and will run through July 7. Bring the whole family to enjoy rides, carnival food, games and much more.

Our nation's birthday, July 4, begins with the Civitan Ham Breakfast from 6-9 a.m, followed by Patriotic Music at the Review Stand at 9:30 a.m. The 107th Freedom Festival Parade begins at 10 a.m. with a wide variety of parade entries.

It's not too late to put a parade entry in. Get creative and celebrate how "Freedom Sparkles" in this year's parade.

Crystal Valley Quartet will be performing at 2-3:30 p.m. at the bandshell for an afternoon out on the Fourth of July.

"Their Service, Our Freedom" free Military/Armed Forces Picnic will be served from 6-8:30 p.m. in the park near the horseshoe pits under a shelter tent. Thank you to all who have served and are currently serving in the military, along with each family member who shares their loved ones for our freedom.

Fireworks will be set off around 10:30 p.m.; bring chairs, blankets and enjoy this American tradition.

Other events include: American Red Cross Blood Drive on June 30 from noon to 5 p.m., July 1 from 4-8 p.m. and July 4 from 4-9 p.m. at the park.

Arts and crafts vendors will be set up at the Roy Clark Building and surrounding grounds on July 2 from 5-10 p.m., July 3 from 1-10 p.m., and July 4 from 1-9 p.m.

A Heavy Weight Horse Pulling Contest will be at Larry Kinnett's Horse Barn on 200N at 6 p.m. on July 1. The Tractor Puller's Contest begins at noon July 7th at the Linton Conservation Club.

We are looking forward to an exciting Fourth of July celebration and Freedom Festival. Hope to see you all there.
