Big weekend on tap in Worthington
The Worthington Yard Sale is this weekend, and many people are working quickly to make sure it is a success! The Sons of the American Legion will sell hot dogs, hamburgers and chili dogs on Friday and Saturday. The V.F.W. Post 7117 will sell walking tacos and pork burgers the same days with free iced tea or lemonade with a $5 purchase.
The Lions Club Pancake breakfast will be Saturday morning at the Worthington Town Hall. They will also serve biscuits and gravy.
* Peggy Wolfe recently returned from Los Angeles, California, where her son-in-law, Tyler Weiss, and her daughter, Jenny, were attending the Creative Arts Emmies. Tyler is producer of visual effects for the sci-fi thriller "The 100" on the CW Cable Channel. Jenny worked on the visual effects on "The Lone Ranger." Peggy got to see many stars in Hollywood, but the biggest attraction for her was her baby granddaughter.
* Dale Hannum is celebrating his 92nd birthday on Monday, Sept. 1. Wilma McBride recently turned 98! We must have very healthy water in Worthington as many people live to be very old here.
* Kids are really enjoying the karaoke at the 67 Diner each Thursday evening. They can dance and sing from 5 to 9 p.m. each week in the back room of the diner.
* Since Tom and I now live on the "upper North side" of Worthington, we have discovered new things in that direction. I have gone to the YMCA in Spencer for several years, but there is also the Tivoli Theater, which is open on the weekend, as is the Owen Valley Winery next door. On Friday nights the BiVi tamali lady is there, too! If you Google Spencer Tivoli you can find out the movie schedule.
Martha is a former publisher, editor and reporter keeping up on the news around Worthington.
