Lots of great things just ahead for Worthington
This weekend will be very busy here. The 5th Annual "Keep Kids Warm" fundraiser will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Worthington Fire Station. This event is hosted by the local Fire District volunteers and provides warm coats and shoes for children in the White River Valley School District. There will be a fish fry dinner, music, door prizes and a silent auction. Donations are appreciated.

The Freedom Country Store will host their Fall Special Days on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 10 and 11 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. There will be a bake sale, fresh-made apple cider, in-store specials and free coffee. On Saturday, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., grilled chicken will be fixed to raise money for the Mt. Nebo Church and Youth Group. The store is located 3 miles north of Worthington on State Road 67.

V.F.W. Post 7117 will host an Open House on Saturday, Oct. 11. From noon until 3 p.m. soup beans and cornbread will be available, as well as games such as Hillbilly Golf, Corn Hole and Horseshoes. The band "Wikker Elefant" will play from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m. There is no cover charge.

Oliver Valley Winery, southeast of Spencer, will host a Harvest Moon Festival on Saturday, Oct. 11, from noon until dusk. There will be live entertainment, wine, pottery, food and arts and crafts.

Carroll Willey, a 1940 graduate of Worthington-Jefferson High School, was posthumously honored by the dedication of a 2-acre park in the name of his and his wife's home, call Rainbow Children's Home, in Whitestown. The couple raised 349 foster children during a 30-year period.
