When it's all said and done
Posted Thursday, September 1, 2016, at 8:56 AMHeavy clouds cover the morning sky with darkness. Winds blow, clouds churn and rain pours. The umbrella turns upside down in the wind and eventually flies off into the storm. Really? But the weather reporter promised a beautiful day with the sun shining away the threat of bad weather... -
Go the distance
Posted Friday, August 26, 2016, at 6:00 PMDon't you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! (1 Corinth 9:24) We all know that if we stop early, not going the full distance, we cannot win a race. But what is distance? To one it is several miles or to another just one step is great effort. Maybe it is a deadline or lessons unfinished for school the next morning. Maybe it is an early morning of detasseling corn but all that can be seen are fields with no end... -
Ain't nothing like the real thing...
Posted Friday, August 19, 2016, at 9:12 AMRemember those days when sugar was sugar and a Coke was perfect, nothing added or taken away? When in the center of the Sunday dinner table there would be a huge plate of fried chicken with skin on and flavored by its own tasty fat. The potatoes whipped just right with the "red-capped" milk and a nice slab of real butter slowly dripping from their peaks. And, not one but, several other side dishes making the family meal a smorgasbord... -
Relax with Him
Posted Monday, August 15, 2016, at 4:04 PMDawn peeks over the treetops to awaken God's glory across the morning sky. Birds chirp and trees whisper His peace across the painted horizon. Bees hum while feeding colored blooms and sparkles of dew reflect His beauty. A lot of happenings for so early in the morning. Seems like creation is all abuzz, when all I want is a cup of coffee... -
The red candle blessing
Posted Friday, July 1, 2016, at 5:26 PM"Where ARE those red candles for my Fourth of July centerpiece?" was our mother's ongoing question for more than a week. The search was on! The question was asked several times a day. After searching and looking over and over, and many times in the same place we had just looked, the red candles were not to be found. ... -
Simple thanks to an awesome God
Posted Monday, May 16, 2016, at 9:52 AM1"Now to Him to is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen" Ephesians 3:20 How does one thank a God who can do that? He really asks so little of us and makes pleasing Him simple. He wants our love and the mindset to believe Him. We do this through our faith that He is. That He is I AM... -
Words can be hurtful or inspire strength
Posted Monday, April 11, 2016, at 12:15 PMWords are powerful and the size of the word does not matter. They can encourage or discourage. An example would be the word -- if. What a tiny word that holds a gambit of questions, answers and could-bes. Mostly it is not a word that encourages but may bring feelings of regret and failure. This tiny word can even determine our future. If you had done this, or had not done that. . . and we listen to it. But why do we give it the time of day? Why would we believe what it speaks over us?... -
Bending down kind of Love
Posted Friday, April 1, 2016, at 2:22 PMI used to wonder what made little ones love their grandparents so much. They seem to always want to be in their company and never want to go home with their parents. Of course, they love their parents, but this is different. Could it be that grandparents tend to sneak a sweet into their small hand when no one is looking? Or that Grandpa enjoys the Hot Wheels and Matchbox isle at Walmart as much as his grandsons do? Maybe Grandma's inner little girl loves shiny plastic heels and sparkly nail polish and is the first one diving into her granddaughter's bag of goodies brought for the sleepover.. ... -
The path doesn't have to be straight
Posted Friday, March 25, 2016, at 4:09 PMThere is the fork in the road. Stop. Which way is going to get me to my destination? Left looks good, but so does right and straight ahead. Being directionally challenged usually takes me on the wrong road every time. It may not even be a new road, but if I allow my eyes to wander soon I am lost... -
The sun will come up
Posted Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at 10:00 AMWait. There are times when that word is a wonderful reprieve from the rush of daily activities. A much needed rest, even if for a few minutes. Then there are those times when the wait seems long and drawn out and you are sure the answer will never come... -
In the vision of love
Posted Monday, March 7, 2016, at 9:37 AM"All right, you kids. You better stop that, I have eyes in the back of my head!" came the distant echo of my mother's voice from somewhere in the house. Evidently, she could see through the walls. These words still hover somewhere in my memory, and from time to time, I catch myself staring at the back of her head to see if those eyeballs are still there... -
Some benefits still worthwhile
Posted Thursday, February 18, 2016, at 8:40 AMBENEFITS. Of insurance. Of friendships. Of eating healthy. Of exercise. Of fish oil. If we watch TV at all or read the promises of the many anti-aging products found across the web, we know the gimmicks. Oh and chocolate. How about that wonderful delight we can now eat without guilt?... -
Spring is not in the air
Posted Monday, February 15, 2016, at 3:49 PMThe pang of a long winter was beckoning me to the window. Whisking back the curtains, the great anticipation of seeing the promise of an early Spring soon disappeared. What? Snow and ice were flying! Hopeless. That's the way Spring was looking this morning. Even a hot brew of tea poured from the china teapot did nothing to help disappointment...
