Football is fun for the whole family

One of the best things about watching Linton Miner football is watching it with my dad.

I’ve always been a daddy’s girl. Don Woods was Mr. Baseball at Shakamak back in his high school days. I grew up watching him play softball in an Army League. I was raised on baseball and fishing. He taught me how to throw a baseball and bait my own hook. He taught me nothing about football. So he is learning along the way just like me.

Daddy moved to Kentucky a couple of years ago after retirement. He is loving life living at the lake. He tries his best to make it to everything the boys are involved in. But all it took was daddy watching his grandson plow over his opponents and he was hooked just like me.

Last week he stayed the whole week just so he could catch a JV and a Varsity game. The Varsity game was eventful. We stayed in the stands during the thunder, lightning, and rain. The rain was coming in sideways at one point. Lightning crashing all around us. But thanks to my daddy’s keen survival skills, we were totally covered in our cheap ponchos. So we decided to be die hard and wait it out. One crack of lightning was a little too close for comfort so we sought shelter until the game started. We had the best time in the storm. Again, I’m a daddy’s girl, just being with my dad makes me smile a mile wide.

After the game was over I took him to the muddy field. I wanted to be with my dad at the goal post for prayer. I wanted him to feel the same thing I did every Friday night when the game is over. (If you haven’t gathered with the team for prayer after the game, I encourage you to do it at least once.) He loved it just like I knew he would. We’ve had several conversations about the football program and he’s been impressed with every aspect. From the parents to the coaches, he is just as grateful as I am.
