I am the new sports/news journalist here at GCDW. I grew up in New Albany and attended private school at Portland Christian in Louisville, Ky. where I played varsity baseball and basketball. While in high school, I was also afforded the opportunity to be on staff for the school newspaper for a year, and even had the opportunity to be the PA for middle school basketball games.
After high school, I attended Oakland City University, where I played baseball for a season before suffering what would become a career ending injury. At OCU, I again had the chance to do more PA work for both men and women’s basketball teams, as well as the baseball team. Sports, and communicating the story of sports, have always been a joy of mine.
One way in which sports stories are often told, is through the numbers. For some, the numbers add layers of unnecessary complications to sports that are already confusing enough. For others, the only way to understand a sport is through analyzing the numbers. It is my goal to communicate both the beauty of sports in their function through stories about humans, as well as the story that the numbers tell.
In addition to being a sports/news reporter, I am also a husband and a father. I met my wife at OCU when we were freshmen and married her three years later. We have a 17-year-old foster son, whom we are planning to adopt very soon, as well as a one-year-old little boy.
In my “spare” time I can be found at WRV where I am the middle school lead cook, or at Dugger First Christian where I have served as the youth minister since January. On a more whimsical note, I enjoy telling puns, watching sports bloopers with my family, playing sports and sports video games with my son, and spending time with my family that is spread throughout the Midwest.
I am ecstatic about the opportunity to serve the community through this medium, and hope the best for all our area teams in their upcoming seasons!
