Soccer weekend
I know Greene County is for football this time of year but this weekend is for soccer. WRV will be hosting a soccer sectional championship Saturday night. Girls soccer will have a soccer sectional title game going on at Sullivan Saturday afternoon.
No Greene County team has won a soccer sectional before. That’s because all the programs around here are less than a decade old. WRV girls soccer is in its second season. There is a good chance history could be made Saturday.
Sunday, Major League Soccer (MLS) is having its “Decision Day.” It’s the last day of the regular season where the playoff spots for the Eastern and Western Conferences will be decided. I know that might sound boring to many here but this soccer season started back in February. That’s almost eight full months coming down to one game for some teams.
Major League Baseball has pretty much the same timeline to its season but their playoff picture is decided. MLS still has several playoff spots open that will all hinge on Sunday. I just find that exciting that a team could miss the playoffs based on one game after an eight month season. Two Ohio teams in FC Cincinnati and the Columbus Crew are both on the bubble. Well I will stop talking about soccer. For now. World Cup starts next month.
