Is it spring yet?Posted Friday, January 30, 2009, at 2:37 PM
I'm tired of snow!
Actually, I'm tired of shoveling snow. I don't have anything against the white stuff, but when it snows, we get freezing rain, and then more snow, that's no fun. I can't count the number of times I shoveled the snow from in front of the newspaper office Tuesday through Friday. A couple of times during the day and overnight, snowplows push snow back up on the sidewalk. That's OK, because that's their job. But this old guy's back is feeling it! This snow is reportedly the most we've received since 1996. I find that amazing. To be honest, it wasn't all that bad. Some are complaining that school shouldn't have been canceled Friday, but the county roads weren't very good. Several had just one lane open. On the other hand, some are complaining that Bloomfield went to school Friday. No matter what a superintendent does, he or she can't do right in the eyes of some. If the snow wasn't enough of a problem Thursday, Linton had a power outage. A pat on the back to the Linton Electric Department and Duke Energy for their fast work. And thanks to Linton Mayor Tom Jones for personally taking the time to keep me informed of what was happening. The newspaper staff was within minutes of leaving for Brazil to put the paper together when Jones suggested we wait about 30 more minutes. Thirty-seven minutes later, the power came back on. I'll forgive you Tom for being seven minutes late. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

I am new to this area, I have come from a big city here in Indiana. The big city counties would have never moved this fast. I am just amazed how fast and how well Greene County has moved to keep the snow off the roads and keeping everyone on track of their everday lifes. Two thumbs up guys.
