Let's get something straight from the get-go -- I'm not a Republican or Democrat. Sure, I have to declare just like everyone else in the primary, but that's not the way I vote in the fall.
I vote for the candidate, not the party. With that said, why can't people give President Obama and Congress a chance? The new president has been in office less than a month, and people are already acting as if he's been in office four or eight years and put the country on a downward spiral like the second President Bush. The Republicans controlled things for six years while President Bush was in office, and I don't believe the country got any better. All the bailouts are proof of that. Will President Obama and the Democrat Congress fix things? I sure hope so. If not, I'll be the first to admit that those in charge should be voted out. President Obama has high hopes that Republicans and Democrats can "get along" and change Washington D.C. I'm not sure that will ever happen, but it's a great idea. There are people on both sides that will never change, and are in office for the wrong reasons. There's a simple way to take care of that every two, four or six years -- vote them out! Sold out by some Democrats when an amendment to STOP hundreds of billions of dollars to support illegal aliens is killed in Stimulus
BOMBARD WASHINGTON BEFORE STIMULUS IS FINAL!
Majority Leader Senator Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have sold out the AMERICAN WORKER. They are trying to kill the E-Verify system that removes illegal aliens from the workforce with a 99.6 success rate. Only anti-sovereignty, pro-illegal immigration groups including the US Chamber of Commerce, La Raza, Mecha along with parasite big businesses who use slave labor.
Two E-VERIFY amendments that had been accepted by the House Appropriations Committee. But behind closed doors the Senate stripped it without discussion or debate.
IT'S NOT TOO LATE!!
Voice your anger and frustration at Pelosi and Reid, they should be ashamed that they are ignoring the American worker.

Are you saying that Bush is to blame for the mess we're in? Really? It's not the greed of the banks? It's not the companies who shipped jobs overseas with ease thanks to NAFTA? There's tons of blame to go around IMHO.

Bush may or may not be entirely at fault, but he was in charge. He could have regulated the banking industry. He could have repealed NAFTA.
And, he could have made it unprofitable to move
industries overseas. But, he chose to do nothing.
Those who do nothing certainly don't get off the hook as easily as you want to make it for them.
Bush could have tried, but it just wasn't in the man.
OBama should not have rushed the stimulus bill now being voted on not 24 hours after the 1100 page document was printed! This is far from the clarity he promised. Should I let him off the hook as easy as NBC, CBS and ABC have?
You criticize those that attempt to remedy problems, but you support those that do nothing.
A very strange approach without explanation for the rational behind it. Our economy is in big, big trouble and I suspect an administration that has been in power for the past eight years just may be more responsible than one that has been in power for only 24 days. Very bad things happen when good men do nothing. I will never condemn any man for trying, but I view with contempt all
men that won't even try.
How anyone, from either "side of the isle", can defend this mega disaster is beyond me...it's generational theft. We are stealing trillions from our grandchildren to build water slides and golf courses and the like.
This is not a stimulus. This is a "stick-it-to-us". Both parties are to blame for this mess, yet now that the democrats have control of the spending they are quickly taking majority ownership.
Change we can believe in?
Yea, right.
We've jumped from Bush's frying pan into Obama's fire.

So you complained when the same thing happened with the PATRIOT Act, right?
Are things a little rushed, maybe. It is hard to say. Name the last bill we knew this much about before it was even through congress.
As for complaining about a wave pool in Carmel...a job is a job. I would guess a few people will be hired to do that job not to mention the revenue in tourism that might branch off.
New roads and bridges are great, but what types of people would be needed for that...engineers, heavy machine operators, truck drivers, etc... That still leaves out a lot of people whose particular skill set doesn't fit.
As for uniting the country, you will never unite the far left and right talking heads of politics. They offer no real solution. They only stir the pot.
I hope Obama can create a group of middle of the road Republicans and Democrats to lean on for support through the House and Senate. I'm not sure this bill helps with that. He should have pushed at least a few of those moderate Republicans concerns forward. He will also have to make a stand against the far left of his own party...they are no better than the far right.
First Bush to blame for NAFTA.
Don't forget what one intended purpose of NAFTA was from the beginning, to bring the standard of living between Americans and Mexicans to the same level. This not only means that eventually, if it works, Mexicans will not have to come here illegally, but that American's standard of living will decrease compared to Mexicans'. If this concept is applied globally, what it means is that the United States will no longer be so much richer than every other country. And who opposes that? Greedy Americans! People who oppose free trade and complain about greed at the same time are being hypocritical.
It is so important to debate and criticize in this country that it's hard to believe a reporter would write such a statement. This entire blog indicates that it's even more important to question and challenge the economic solutions being proposed. Without debating the inaccuracies rampant in most of the posts, giving our chief executive a pass is exactly the wrong way to treat a crisis of a magnitude beyond most of our comprehension.
I think one of the things that upsets me most is that people like me who have not purchased a home yet are not given the same chance now that others have been afforded. Credit scores are not fair either. Mine is low because a local hospital will not put account balances together and work out a payment they want to send multiple accounts to collections and make things worse for my family.
I am sure we have all done our part to make or break this country that we live in, coming together to heal the wounds is the only way it will be resolved. One small community at a time.
GC Citizen, now understand that your tax dollars will be paying the mortgages of people who don't have a compelling story for their misfortune. So when you 'give a pass' and 'coming together' are the same meaningless platitudes that don't pass economic muster. We cannot fail in our civic responsibility to corral our government when it does stupid things.
