Linton-Stockton eighth graders finish perfect
The perfect season.
The 1972 Miami Dolphins. The 1976 Indiana Hoosiers.
Both accomplished something that hasn't been done since. The Dolphins won the Super Bowl with a perfect record, and coach Bob Knight's Hoosiers won the NCAA Tournament with a perfect record.
Add the 2008-09 Linton-Stockton Junior High boys basketball team to that list.
OK, the Miners aren't on the grand scale of the Dolphins and Hoosiers, but what they completed Wednesday was something special.
Coach Derek Bradbury's team finished its season with a victory at White River Valley, giving the Miners a 20-0 record. On Monday, the Miners won the SWIAC Tournament with a victory over Shakamak.
I don't want to put any pressure on this group of boys, because junior high success doesn't always translate into varsity success. But news of this team traveled throughout the area.
At home and away games you would find more than just the normal Linton fans watching this team. It's probably fair to say this team already has a bull's-eye on it, but that's OK. This is a good team, with a lot of talent.
Linton fans need to be patient. Freshmen usually don't make a major impact on the varsity unless you're an A.J. Graves or Brody Boyd. Junior varsity success is the logical next step.
A major pat on the back to Coach Bradbury and his players. From what I'm told they will continue playing during the AAU season, which is great news. Good teams don't just pick up a basketball when practice starts.
Team members include Cole Bradbury, Hammer Parker, Koye Kaiser, Cole Riggleman, Abram Neff, Austin Karazsia, Cody Kocher, Clayton French, Jackson Bonhert, Dess Fougerousse, Ethan Fettig, and Darren Dickinson.

Yes, school work comes first ... but athletics can play a major role in a student's well-rounded education.
What does everyone else think?
Have a great weekend!!!
