Family Life Center helps 310 children
The Family Life Center is finalizing its annual Christmas for Kids program.
To date, FLC is serving between 115-120 families and a total of 310 children.
The children range in age from birth to 18 years old, "with the heaviest concentration (being) between the ages of 10-14," Dianne Langer of Family Life Center stated in an e-mail to the Greene County Daily World.
"As we inventoried the donated gifts, we are still in need of basketballs, soccer balls, footballs, baseballs and bats, fishing poles and tackle. This age group also uses generic iPods, country CDs and ear rings, bangles, and funky socks."
Langer went on to explain that there are 133 children within that age group, which she calls "the tweens."
"If you or a group would like to assist with those gifts please let me know as soon as possible," Langer said. "All donations can be dropped off at FLC" through Wednesday at noon.
The Christmas for Kids escorted shopping begins Monday morning (Dec. 21) and the final family will shop Wednesday at 4 p.m.
"We are totally excited to have the privilege of serving families in need who are not served by any other organization or charity," Langer said. "The Greene County Christmas database holds 648 families. Over 500 of those families have been served by local fire departments, Toys for Tots, Clothe-A-Child, businesses, police departments, churches, plus many other kind-hearted people.
"Greene County folks are the most generous, kind and caring people I have come to know."
Langer added that the Family Life Center can always use additional volunteers this time of the year.
"If you want to be a part of Christmas for Kids, whether it is wrapping gifts, making food baskets, donating 'tween' gifts, or escorting families, you will be received with open arms and a smile."
If you would like to donate to the Christmas for Kids program, you can send your financial support to Langer at the Family Life Center, 19 South Washington St., Bloomfield, Ind., 47424.
