There may be snow on the ground, and warm, sunny, 60-degree days are only a dream at the moment.
But Maria Jeffers and Brenda Everett are already thinking about a weekend in the middle of May -- which will host the annual Greene County Relay for Life.
This year's annual event will be at White River Valley High School, a change from the past couple of years when it was at the Bloomfield High School and town park.
Jeffers and Everett are organizing the event this year. The annual weekend is a major fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, and also proves to be a fun and emotional weekend.
"(The) American Cancer Society needs your help to accomplish treatments, wigs, caring programs, etc.," Jeffers stated in an e-mail to the Greene County Daily World.
"Get your team together and get those fundraisers started early."
This year's Greene County Relay For Life will be at WRV High School on May 15-16. It will start at 2 p.m. on May 15 and end at 2 p.m. on May 16.
Jeffers said you can register by telephone by contacting her at 384-6581 or Everett at 381-0399. You may also e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Last year's Relay reached its goal, even though the event was rained out after nine hours. The 14th annual event had 29 teams take part, which is the most ever.
"Greene County Relay For Life was rained out last year but we reached our goal," Jeffers said. "Help us reach the goal this year."
If you would like to make a donation, you can mail it to Everett at 1360N 850W, Switz City, Ind., 47465.
The Relay also is putting together a cookbook as a fundraiser. Organizers are asking that you send in your favorite recipe to Everett at the above address. The deadline to enter a recipe is Feb. 28, and you will receive a discount on the cookbook when it's published.
When mailing your recipe, please include the recipe, your name, address and telephone number.
"All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society, Greene County Relay for Life," Jeffers said.
