UPDATED (the power is still off): The Ice Storm of 2011
Updated at 7:55 a.m. on Wednesday
Got to work about 7:40 a.m. and the lights were on!!!
The drive in wasn't bad at all. S.R. 59 is completely clear. County Road 200 South (Old Lyons Road) only has ice where water had been standing, which isn't much. Overall in good condition. County Road 1100 has more ice, but only where water had been standing. Still, much better than the drive in Tuesday morning.
I believe the warmer weather that came from the south around 10 p.m. on Tuesday and the wind helped us here in Greene County. From what I hear the warmer temps didn't make their way past Greene County.
I hope the worst is behind us!!
Take care.

Power is back on!!!! Thank you and great job REMC!!!
Jesse Walker said that it's now 45 degrees in Vincennes. Wow!!
The furnace is on and we also have an electric heater on to get the temps up in case the power goes off again.
Again, thanks REMC!
Jesse Walker says it's 45 degrees in Vincennes ... The NWS says it's 40 in Bicknell and 33 in Linton.

Still without power. It's down to 52 degrees. We have lots of clothes on so it's not too bad. Heck, B.J Hargis wears shorts to football games until it gets below 45 or 50 degrees!!
The wind is gusting a little. Hope that doesn't cause more power outages and problems for everyone.
Deb and I will be heading to bed shortly. We've played cards, I listened to Purdue get beat by Wisconsin, listened to a little ESPN radio on my iPhone, and cleaned out my e-mail.
I made the statement to Deb when I was listening to the radio that I can understand how radio used to be big. I was thrilled to have something to listen to.
I probably won't update until morning unless something big happens.
I hope everyone has a safe night and we wake up to the power on and roads OK.

Power is still off. Have been trying to get through to REMC to let them know but it keeps ringing busy.
I know for sure that all homes south of County Road 200 South on C.R. 1100 West are without power.
Been playing cards with Deb by candlelight ... to bad it's not Valentine's Day.
I'm going to try and conserve on my laptop battery in case I have to use it for work Wednesday. Will try to update as often as I can.
If anyone gets through to REMC let them know about all of us in Stafford Township.
Just got a text from Anna Rochelle ... the power is out all over the place.
Yikes!!!!
Updated at 6:38 p.m.
Lights went out at 6:33 p.m. Hopefully REMC will get things up and going sometime tonight.
The laptop battery has 96 percent power left and the Verizon card is working OK, though the signal isn't very strong.
Updated at 5:45 p.m.
Lights flickered a couple of times but stayed on.
We have everything ready just in case.
Laptop has a full charge and I have the Verizon card ready to hook up to keep Internet up.
Just got home from work ... it's about 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
State Road 59 was fine, and County Road 200 South (Old Lyons Road) was OK. County Road 1100 West (just into Stafford Township) was a little slick but nothing major.
But ... and this is a big but (come on now, quit laughing) ... there is ice all over trees, power lines, buildings, and anything else that is outside. Even our rock driveway is covered in ice. How much ice do we have in my neck of the woods? I'd guess about a quarter of an inch.
Linton Mayor Tom Jones stopped by the office before I left work. City Hall was closed about 3 p.m., and we chatted about the storm. He told me it wasn't a matter of "if" the power goes out in Linton, it's "when." If Duke Energy west and northwest of Linton goes down, Linton will go down.
I live in Stafford Township near Goose Pond and we are serviced by REMC. I'm hoping those lines hold up! My gut feeling is that won't be the case.
If you have any ice/weather photos you'd like to share, e-mail them to me at cpruett79@gmail.com or Nick Schneider at schneider.nick@gmail.com or Anna Rochelle at indianarose@fastmail.us Please include who took the photo, where it's at and first and last names of anyone in the photo.
We will continue to update our website as long as we all have power.
Be safe!!
