Tune in and watch Linton City Council meeting on Monday
If you live in Linton, how many city council meetings have you attended?
If you're like most, the answer is probably zero.
Most residents, though, have an opinion -- or are at least interested -- about something that's taking place in their city.
But most can't find the time to make their way to Linton City Hall on the second Monday of every month at 7 p.m. It's a busy world.
To help keep people informed of what's happening with their city government, the Greene County Daily World will begin live streaming Linton City Council meeting on its website, www.gcdailyworld.com .
The paper will be at Monday's meeting.
I must confess it's been a long time since I've covered the Linton City Council. Jimmie K. Wright was mayor, so that gives you an idea of how long it's been.
Attendance wasn't very high at the meetings I covered for years. If eight people showed up it was considered a good crowd.
When the late Tom Jones became mayor he was able to get more people involved, and attendance went up considerably. The same has been true with current Mayor Patti Jones, the late mayor's wife.
But there are some who still want to know what's going on but can't attend in person. Now you can sit at home or work and watch on our computer.
The meetings will be archived so you can watch them anytime you want.
The newspaper began live streaming high school sporting events last school year, and has expanded to some meetings and events.
Last month the paper live streamed its first Linton-Stockton Board of School Trustees meeting, and it has been live streaming Greene County Commissioner meetings for a while.
We've done other events as well, including the Linton Fourth of July parade. Over 1,300 viewers watched the day of and the four days following.
We hope to expand to other cities and towns to cover their meetings by live stream, but right now we're taking baby-steps.
If you're interested in helping with the production side of live streaming, send me an email or call (see below).
And make sure to tune in Monday night at 7 at www.gcdailyworld.com for the meeting. Go to the home page, and scroll down a little until you come to the Channel 3 button.
Click and enjoy.
