Difference Maker will be honored at annual banquet
One of the best nights of the year for Greene County Daily World employees is later this month.
Election night can be fun. Covering area teams in the state tournament is exciting. There are many other things we write about that get the creative juices flowing.
But nothing compares to the evening when the newspaper hosts its annual Difference Maker banquet. It’s the night when we honor 10 area people who make a difference in our community by volunteering their time to help others.
This year’s event is Sept. 20 at Goose Pond Lodge & Retreat. It starts at 6 p.m.
Judges have narrowed the field of nominees to 10. From that list, a Difference Maker of the Year will be announced at the banquet. Community members nominated the volunteers.
The 10 finalists:
• Linda Bedwell of Linton
• Tim and Cindy Hale of Linton
• Chantel Eaton of Linton
• Marvin Holt of Bloomfield
• Tracy Keen of Linton
• Nick Moore of Linton
• Richard Nichols of Bloomfield
• Diane Pine of Jasonville
• Mark and Joann Stacy of Linton
• Bob and Mari Uland of Bloomfield
The 10 finalists will be featured in a special section that will be published in the Sept. 14 edition of the newspaper.
Our keynote speaker this year is Cam Trampke. Cam served as executive director of the Greene County Community Foundation for two decades before retiring last December.
She helped start the foundation in 1997.
“I have always seen the potential of the Foundation,” Cam said upon her retirement. “There was always a concern in Greene County about there not being enough dollars to do this or that. We saw the Foundation as a mechanism to bring in dollars to the county, and use those dollars for the greater good. I saw the Foundation as a vehicle for the betterment of Greene County.”
Under Cam’s leadership, the Foundation has grown from having an asset base of $3.8 million to its current assets of more than $8.5 million. More than 50 grants and scholarships are now paid out annually, totaling at least $300,000 each year.
Cam will talk about the importance of volunteerism in Greene County, and offer her unique thoughts on the subject.
Our co-sponsors for this year’s event are Hicom, Jason Skomp (Farm Bureau Insurance), Shields Hardware, Midwest Satellite, Greene County Foundation, Inspired Interiors, the City of Linton, and McDonald’s.
The Difference Maker of the Year winner will receive a prize package, including gifts from the Greene County Daily World and area businesses.
The banquet is free and open to the public, though reservations are required. The public may begin reserving spots Sept. 5. Seating is limited to 120.
You may register by calling the newspaper at (812) 847-4487. Seating is limited to two per reservation.
