The Circus: How Not to Advertise!

Posted Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at 11:08 AM

Promoters for the circus coming to Linton decided it would be a great idea for them to litter the downtown with signs for the upcoming attraction without permission from business and building owners -- or really any regard for anyone. Posters were plastered on every store front in downtown Linton, using what seems to be about a half-roll of clear tape per sign.

Such disregard for others' property is really upsetting, and I know that none of them will be back to take down the signs after the event, especially those on vacant and out-of-towner owned buildings. So, we can all thank the circus -- which appears to have no name either because it wasn't on the signs -- for littering our downtown and generally trashing it up for us all to clean up after them. By their method and pattern of advertisement, it's no wonder there's not a name or any corporate contact information on these signs; after all, their home office would do nothing but field complaint calls all day.

I really hope this circus is not equally as irresponsible with their animals as they were with their advertising. Personally, I would highly recommend going to a zoo for those wanting to let their kids see exotic animals, where you know they're cared for in a professional manner in a permanent and legitimate establishment -- and one that won't be here one day and gone the next like a circus.

You'll also know the name of the zoo that you're going to, instead of attending a circus that's obviously too embarrassed to display its name or contact information in its own advertisements.

You didn't see a name clearly because they dont' want any of us 'do gooders' lookign up the name and their excessive violations of animal care law. See following link:

I don't know who is 'sponsoring' this sad event but they should be ashamed.

Besides bringing into town, an inarguable criminal element, and drugs, you are enjoying your circus at great suffering to the their animals. Just check their USDA records and they violations.......Best I can hope for is an obvious violation is seen while they are here, and hopefully it won't entail a tortured animal 'losing it' and wreaking havoc and hurting people in the process. TIme to wake up LINTON......brining circuses to our town makes you look like you could care less about horrific animal suffering!

Slightly off topic. Set your timers and tell your friends to watch Oprah this Friday at 4pm. Finally after much begging and pleading , we are getting our show on the horrors of puppy mills.....puppys run like the ones of the AMish recently highlighted in an INdy TV station expose. INcluded some scary confronations with Levi Graber of Oden.

I've come to accept that compassion is the new radicalism of our time, in some peoples eyes but time is catching up, the rest of the world see's these horrors for what they are. COme on Greene County, get with it. Time to care what 'outsiders' think of us if we are ever going to get ahead.

As a general rule, most political signs are displayed between the road and the sidewalk...which is city property. I, however, do understand the frustration. The placement of the signs make it seem that a supporter of the candidate lives at that home...I have moved some signs myself.

As a side note, school board elections are coming up soon. Let's try to get or keep objective members...not those with a personal agendas or those trying to get a relative a job in the school corp. We don't need educational leaders that are trying to get elected just to pass the time.
