Strawberries, Jeans and Poetry

Posted Monday, September 8, 2008, at 4:07 PM

(Photo)
I think I could have gotten into 32s back then.
I need to pay more attention to detail when I'm shopping. I thought I was buying Old Fashioned Vanilla ice cream the other day. Last night I got my strawberries out to put on my…Orange Vanilla ice cream.

I also bought a pair of jeans at Goody's a couple of weeks ago that said they were 38s, odd that I would need a pair that big, but that's what this world has come to now. When I tried them on at home, I found out that they were actually 32s. Too tight a fit for my liking.

I've said it before and I'll say it again

For those who haven't already heard

My Yankees are dead and the Giants,

Well, they are…merely absurd

NASCAR's Chase is now down to the twelve

And I'm betting on Carl or Kyle

But Jimmie's alive and winning again

And Junior's still able to smile

Nadal just got whipped up on

By a young Scot….yes, Andy Murray

He's got Rog now or Rog has got him

We'll find out which way in a hurry

With Tiger at home doing rehab

The Spider started doing his thing

He won at Bellerive on Sunday

But the FedEx goes to a Fijian named Singh

Joe Torre is dealing the cards

And the Dodgers have upped the ante

Just like with the Yanks, Old Joe's out in front

And Manny, yep, he's just being Manny

The Big Ten might be a little different

As the Buckeyes looked pretty sad

IU beat the Racers for 2 in row

BCS for the Hoosiers?...might be stretching that just a tad

Now Brady is out for the season

And the Patriots are feeling the pain

But Peyton's not boasting or bragging today

As Da Bears are commencing their reign

Favre wins with Jet green on his back

And the Cowboys are doing just fine

The Eagles are soaring in Philly

And the Steel Curtain has started to shine

At The Open the women are finally done

Early on, Venus lost to Selena

But the sisters have made up again

And that's more than we can say for Jelena

The Cubs are still leading way late in the year

But they're starting to fade just a bit

You say Soriano hit 3 homers in just one game?

Well, maybe it's time for him to sit

I've never been much of a poet,

I've been told that once or twice before

Don't worry my dear, it's not a love song

Just helping the fans at home…trying to keep score

Didn't have a lot of time for this, as you can probably tell from the unprofessional manner in which it was recorded. I shall make a better attempt next time. I just had to get that political blog off the web because it was making me sick.

That's funny minermama. More of a dud than stud, I just got along with everyone. Small class, so after Most Likely to Succeed, Smartest, Best Athlete, Funniest, etc., all they had left when they got to me, was Favorite.

That is the current Mrs. Charles Bonham on top of my car and how she jumped up there, I don't remember. Now, she was and always has been a class act and a Favorite of the entire Class of '71.

I think the car was a Ford Pinto.

And that is the history behind the photo, as I remember it.

I enjoyed the comments on the last blog, just hated the topic and it was time to move on before we had Bob Dylan running for the Progressive Party.

Don't believe him minermama, he could've won all those categories listed. Not to mention Poet Laureate.

Your "secret identity" is safe with me and I can keep a secret, just ask Jimmy Olsen and Perry White.

1976 was a great year, I drove to Alaska in January of 1976 (which I hope to do again sometime) and I became a father in July of 1976(which I shall never do again).

Nothing like a Ford Pinto, mine could do 0-60 in about a week and a half and could haul one and a half friends (very small ones) for at least a block and a half.

I gaurantee that the History of The Party Wagon would be a lot more interesting than the History of Ol' Simmons. Let's take a vote. Who would rather hear about the stories from the Party Wagon?

Poet Laureate..haha..give me a break.

Party Wagon. (But I already know a lot of the History of Ol Simmons.)

BTW minermama, "Take it or leave it" is a choice.

...Thanks for changing your blog. Do you think that Bob could have fit in that pinto?

-- Posted by Mr. Robato on Tue, Sep 9, 2008, at 6:41 AM

good reading after all the other subjects on here, I too had a pinto station wagon along with our two children, it was a great little car, and the children loved going down the big , big hills in it , the only bad thing was it broke down , where else in our driveway, the throttle cable gave way, maybe to many big hills.

Using Selena rather than Serena to rhyme with Jelena was brilliant! Were you taught poetry by Kris Kristofferson at West Point?

-- Posted by Wiglund on Tue, Sep 9, 2008, at 5:02 PM

I'm so brilliant I didn't even know her name was Serena. I think Serena would have rhymed as well, wouldn't it? Great job of catching that error and I'm glad you brought it to everyones' attention. Couldn't you find any other errors? Let us know if you do, please. We need a good critique now and then, it cleanses the soul, doesn't it?

I think it is pretty obvious that no one ever taught me anything about poetry.

Was that a "Smile" or were you "Talking?", or maybe asking her on a date?

Don't wager any money on the Buckeyes this weekend. I have to work the first four games this year. 107,000 people are about 106,000 too many; I forgot why I hated it so much. It's great not having to worry about it this weekend.

I don't think Indiana plays Michigan this year. Maybe they will have a nice run.

Im really glad Pawtucket and Nantucket didnt have any newsworthy sports, or this blog might have been adults only.

On a more serious note, kudos to Jerry and Gayle Margraff for the wonderful tournament they will be holding this weekend at the Phil. My favorite weekend of the year on the course, and a wonderful fund raiser for the Ronald McDonald house. Having fun with my best friends and raising money for such a great cause at the same time is truly priceless.

Ol Simmons, polish up that putter, I feel a good run out of the dark horses this year.

I think I was asking her how in the heck she got up there. We never dated, I don't think Marilyn ever dated anyone other than Charlie. I was pretty shy back then.

The "Big Mac" is also a favorite of mine and my putter stands ready. By the way, did I tell you about the birdie I made on 8 last week? HA, I'll bet there are some folks out there thinking...not again Simmons...we've heard this a dozen times. OK, enough.

Minermama..what happened that time at Redbird?

-- Posted by simmons on Wed, Sep 10, 2008, at 2:11 AM

Though a newbie to your tracts, I just had to weigh in.

Longfellow and Dickinson don't have to worry about being displaced any time soon.

And I've seen the putter get better as the holes go by. There's a lot to be said for "swing oil."

-- Posted by AgingShortstop on Wed, Sep 10, 2008, at 8:32 AM

Didn't Longfellow invent the Belly putter?

The AgingShortstop I know, just may be the best putter in Greene County.

"Swing oil" is and has always been the key to all shot making.

I love to read these!!!!!! You all can make me laugh on an otherwise hectic day. Thank you!!

I agree with minermama, if pictures could talk this one would be saying alot. I did a little time at SHS myself. My famous picture was best athlete. I'm sure it was the last one they needn't to take. We also had a Ford Pinto, what a family car it was. Thanks for sharing. The trip down memory lane was fun.

"I don't think you realize that being voted the "Favorite" is the highest honor you can get!"

Ah but I do, and it was only won by constant campaigning. I set my goal on it as a very young man and worked diligently throughout my life to attain that prestigious award. If you are lucky enough to win this award, then you have a lot of good friends. I'll never have much money, but I'm rich with friends, the most valuable commodity on this planet.

And now...groupies...I'm in heaven. G'night, just got a new book in the mail (Under the Cloud by Richard Miller), time to lay down and read.

By the way if any of my "friends" want to sub tomorrow for my Elks' partner, I'm looking for one, just call 381-2855. :>)

-- Posted by simmons on Wed, Sep 10, 2008, at 7:18 PM

Simmons, I would recommend you contact the sub Matt had last week. Rex beat me like a drum!

-- Posted by CHatton on Wed, Sep 10, 2008, at 8:09 PM

Curt, that doesn't bode well for your Olympic chances. Did you not try the high fade on him? Did you not brush in the putts with authority?

Thanks for the tip. After I go through all of my phone messages from last night, let's see, I got none, so that won't take long, I guess I'll call Rex. I doubt that he's up yet.

Thanks a lot simmons. All my wife can think about now is you in those 32" jeans. She has requested a recent photograph in the tight ones.

-- Posted by instigator474 on Thu, Sep 11, 2008, at 3:04 PM

I didn't actually get them all of the way on. I may have to exercise again for about 2-3 hours a day for another 20 years before I could get back into 32s.

A recent photograph would look a lot like Larry the Cable Guy in Speedos.

Simmons, Not to change the subject, but congrats on your knock in from 160 yards today for an eagle. It was a pleasure to play a round with you!

-- Posted by CHatton on Sun, Sep 14, 2008, at 8:55 PM

Thanks Curt. That was a pretty wild ride for a while, especially trying to putt on 10 in that wind. I would really like to know what those wind speeds were at that time.

I would say that the competition between those two teams was as much fun as I've had in years.
