A Day for Turkey and Betsy RossPosted Thursday, November 26, 2009, at 8:36 AM
That's not a turkey, it's a duck.
I was up this morning at oh-dark-thirty and began doing some laundry. I've conquered 3 loads today and when this last dryer load finishes, I shall give the machines a much needed rest for the weekend. I noticed early on that Aden's bridge for his train track was in dire need of repair, so I tackled that prior to prepping the bird. After the turkey was in the oven, I wrapped myself up in the warmth of my favorite afghan (that's an African for you KD). It is a beautifully knitted American Flag and it caresses me like a mother does a child. As I settled back in the chair and thought about Betsy Ross, I couldn't help but think of how great I felt and what a great day it was going to be. I'm fairly sure that I was asleep within five to six minutes. The turkey is now out of the oven and resting peacefully on the counter. I've decided to carve it prior to leaving this year, so I'll do that in another 15 minutes or so. I'm baking a carrot cake right now; first time with this new recipe so the resulting product shall be an unknown variable. I'm heading to Linton later to spend the day with my eldest child, Matthew, and his lovely bride, Melanie. Several members of Melanie's family will be there and they've been kind enough to invite me as well. I shall attempt to be on my best behavior. The cake is done (I love the part where you stick a toothpick in to see if it is done) and has joined the turkey on the counter. I shall now do the carving and then the icing. I surely hope everyone will have a great Turkey day. So, with the Box Tops playing 'I Met Her In Church' in the background, I bid you, adieu. Happy Thanksgiving Pal.
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving friend. I always enjoy your stories. Tell Matt to invite his neighbor next year!
I'm back home, I'm stuffed and I'm ready for another close encounter with the afghan. It was a wonderful time, just a great effort by Matt & Mel, thanks. Cheers and to all a good night.
Glad your eat and greet with Matt and Mel was successful. Had a great meal with the in-laws and Jeremy on Turkey Day, Lois sure can cook. Heading off to meet Caleb & Cody at the Children's Museum this am, then sneak in another practice round before we tangle again in Venice.
I did the turkey, but not the Bailey's. I think I'll try it your way next year.
Is it time to go to Florida yet?
It wasn't until this morning. We used to think this was invigorating.
Very, very invigorating over here in my neck of the woods. It was -17 yesterday morning.
I'm ready. Told the guy that runs the local doughnut shop this morning if he'd move his operation to FL I'd follow him down there. If you're ever up this way make sure you stop by the White House in Westfield for some of the best doughnuts in the world.
Simmons,
I enjoyed your story.
As my Dad would have told me, "You'll make someone a good wife someday."
Lil'Hahn,
What part of the world are you in? -17 sounds bruttal! Florida is in my future.
cow rancher: I live in Denver. It is much warmer now, hitting a high of 51 over the weekend and right about 32 right now.
For those of you sick of reading about Tiger's latest news, another battle royale is about ready to begin in Florida between c&c's grandpa and Aden's poppy. First round kicks off about 2 pm at the Bardmoor GC near Tampa on Monday the 21st. Updates will be available on this blog somewhere, I'm sure.
